Good Day FJ60/62 Fans. I've got a 62 that i have been working on for a few years that I am contemplating my next moves on. I've rebuilt most of the drivetrain and installed a 5.3 LS. The brakes on this rig have never been great and i have rebuilt them and flushed and bled them several times. Over Christmas i upgraded to the Nomad 17" wheels and am not considering the big brake kit to improve braking performance. I am reaching out to see what others experience with this brake upgrade has been to make sure the juice is worth the squeeze. Currently looking at just doing the front to retain the parking brake but am also curious if others have done the rear and if that was a significant improvement over just doing the front. I'm looking at Manafre's kit though i know there are several out there so i would appreciate any input on the kit also.

I am a little bit lost on your post. You are considering a $3000 brake upgrade but you stated you were not doing it to improve braking performance?

FYI, I’m in the middle of replacing my entire suspension, steering and upgrading the front brakes on my FJ 62. I went with the front range off road kit (they have 2 - I did the 2004 tundra upgrade). If I had to do it again, I would not use front range off road as I have been unable to contact them since I purchased the kit and I had some questions. Use their bracket but get a kit from someone that has better customer service. Regardless, I did a lot of research and if you already have 17 inch wheels I would consider going to the more recent model tundra/forerunner brakes. I had that tundra and it towed 9000 pounds with five people in the truck and stopped without an issue so I imagine it could stop any FJ 62 easily. I don’t think you need Wildwood or four wheel discs unless you are carrying a lot of extra armor weight and towing from what I read and my buddies told me.

One thing you have to consider is most of these front big brake upgrades require you to change your hubs and widen the stance by about 1 3/4 inches on each side. That then requires you to use spacers in the rear to even out the front and rear wheel wheels. You may already be doing that if you’re using 17 inch wheels on Stock fj62 axles due to backspacing.

@cruisermatt is a great resource and can walk you through the different options and the positives and negatives. They sell the kits as well and he has great customer service.

Give me call Chris :)
