Right a late model like 85-87. The early ones fit in a different location on the frame due to the trannys being shorter.

AFAIK the price seems good but that is always so subjective on your market. I just picked up a '89 62 for a grand but the body is absolute junk(rust) mechanicals are great-worth it to me.

There is a cutoff in 85' where the trucks built before it will not be as easy as the later ones and 86'-87' as well. I think its July but I am not sure. My donor was an 87'.

I used the pedal assembly from the FJ60 and it was tough to reach the upper right bolt when installing it in the 62. Pateince and 20 minutes got it on without removing the whole dash.

I tried using the crossmember from the 87' FJ60 but it would not work. I ended up using the shorter crossmember from an earlier FJ60 and welded on some 3/4" steel to the frame for the crossmember to bolt to.

I now want to see if the large skid plate from a 60 will fit.

Ok, thanks...the donor 60 I got for $1000 is in poor condition, was wrecked...frame and everything but body and front axle are still good the interior is almost mint. The 62 was over $6k, but I'm not adding that into the project since it was bought by my dad and not I.

What didn't work?

I haven't actually tried this just figured it would work b/c the early crossmember didn't fit w.o mod either. It would seem that the 87 member will work with some angle welded on the frame no???

It would not bolt onto the frame using the pre-existing threaded holes. I still have the 87' Xmember and will take another look next time I am under the truck. I had it as well as the early FJ60 and the one from my 88 for the H440F. The easiest to use was the early FJ60 unit and we welded on some 3/4" steel plate about 9"X12" to the frame. We drilled bolt holes into that so I can unbolt my cross member to remove the tranny for clutch work etc.

The 88' has L shaped mounts attached to the frame on both the inside and outside. The A440F is considerably longer than the H55F so these mounts were too far rearward. We toyed with cutting them off with a plazma cutter and re-mounting them but it was not worth the effort. The frame rails angle inward as you go forward so the original cross member was too long and the 87' unit did not have anything to bolt to. You could make something similar to the L shaped mounts or get an early cross member and do what I did.

Good Luck,

Thats I guess what I was thinking. That aside from having to fab new frame mounts out of angle that the legnth was right and it would fit right up.

my bad.

I went into Toyota again ans asked for the price of part number #33030-60450 the H55F and it was $7 more than before at $1567.60, with tax $1696.40.
