FJ62 - Any idea what this module is under driver side dash?

Got my cruiser about 7 years ago. Finally getting around to cleaning up some messy wiring under the dash. Previous owner had an alarm installed with a kill switch (a lot of good that did, according to car fax when I bought it, rig was stolen and found a month later. ). I never had the remote and had a stereo guy disable it without removing it. Is this module the after market security system that I can remove or something else? I’m thinking of buying a new wiring harness and trying to swap out old one but that seems dangerous as I’m sure many wires were spliced with others and I could end up screwing up my electrical in the rig. Thoughts?

That looks to be a cruise control box. I have an identical one (only pink/purple color) on the dealer-installed setup in my 62. They were made by Dana.

Lately mine has been randomly cutting out or going runaway (won't stop accelerating), so once I get through some other pressing work I'm going to go through my system and see if I can find what's causing those issues.

On the subject of wiring harnesses, I would LOVE to see a complete modernized harness (even just sections of it) for the 62 with larger gauge wires where necessary; but the 62 itself is such a niche market that I don't see any profitability in something like that, so I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Thanks @Spook50 . My rig does have cruise control so that makes sense. Tested it on way to work this morning and still works. So that’s one piece of the puzzle. I guess I’ll try to identify each component under the dash attached to the wire harness and trace all wires. Remove what is not being used, and connect those wires that match and look like they go together. A bit nervous about this because it’s my daily driver but what’s the worst that could happen, I can always get a ride if needed.

The actual schematics of every circuit and some that are for foreign models are on the very last pages. Here is one screenshot.

Thanks @BurntToast . I assume 88' wiring is same as 89' for the most part? @86aggie, weird, the FSM I downloaded must be missing the last pages. The PDF I have goes 444 pages but there are no wiring diagrams in the back.

These wiring diagrams look intimidating. I'll just need to go one at a time.

I would assume so, I only found one difference between it and my 88
