Replacing my motor in my 91' FJ80, but I'm using an FJ62 longblock instead. Ill be using all of my FJ80 brackets, wiring, injectors, headers, intake, etc..., but is there anything that might come as a surprise in major differences. I hear the dizzy is different, but then I also hear its the same. As much info that can be given ASAP would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks,

I have read that the pilot bearing is larger in the 80 series motor. You might want to check it out before bolting it all together. Hopefully it's the outer diameter that is different and the inner diameter is the same.

Let us know how it works out. I would be interested to know what the differences are:beer:

Distributor is the same on all 3FE motors as is the AFM. You'll want to keep the coil/igniter from the 62.

There is no pilot bearing on an automatic transmission. The torque converter is bolted directly to the flex plate.

I assumed I'd want to keep the coil/igniter from he 80 due to larger spark gap requirements, but I'll definitly look into that more as well. Realized after I responded to the "pilot bearing" comment tgat I shouldn't even have one, but then started reading up on flex ate issues. I read that the bolt holes have the same patterns, but I may need to drill them out larger to fit up to eachother...any further info on that?

Thanks,

Sorry guys, I should have said the crank pilot hole. Some of the engine building sites have the older 3FEs listed as 35mm and the new ones as 43mm.

I guess this is only for manual tranny options? I assumed that the torque converter used this for alignment .

Flexplates are different part numbers between the FJ62 and FJ80.

32101-60010 FJ62
32101-60011 FJ80

If you're bolting this to an A440F from an FJ80, then keep the 80 3FE flexplate. The crankshafts are different part numbers, so I have no idea if the plate will bolt up to the crank, but it WILL fit to the torque converter.

Spoke with George (OrangeFJ45), and he says everything should bolt up fine. I'm purchasing the 62 longblock, but will be doing a complete rebuild, so maybe I should just use the 80 crank...what do y'all think?

The 62's manufacture date was 02/89 and the VIN is jt3fj62g6k1106104, the date on the 80 is 8/91.....anyone think of any major differences that while arise other than what's been stated?
