Wanted FJ60 T-Case Shifter Assembly

I have a half coubled together twin stick and I hate it. I want to go back to the factory shifter assembly. I don't care what year it is, just a complete one so I can bolt it up to my shifter adapter and lengthen the linkages.

Trying to steal my thunder huh? I only want the 86 - 87 t-case with the bigger idler gear. Otherwise I don't want it.

However I still do want the t-case shifter linkage if you have that available George. I just need to have all the associated crap with it, and then I'll extend the linkage out to fit my set up.
 
i guess you should have bought the complete unit i had at the petaluma swap meet, huh?!

pretty sure i still have a complete linkage assy for an 86 case. i'll check tomorrow.......

WHY? It is 38mm versus 34mm. It isn't like the 34mm transfer cases are exploding all over the place.
 
it's not that the 34s 'explode", but the idler shafts and bearings seem to wear out faster than the 38s. so if you're gonna go thru the trouble of rebuilding one then you might as well start with the best parts available.......

Define wear out faster. I have one with 240k on it here that has never been touched. I agree that the 38mm is an improved transfer case but I think that people get a little over sensitive to this. There are a ton of 34mm cases that have held up just fine.
 
well, since the idler shaft is a smaller diameter, the bearing has less rollers putting more stress/load on them. this in turn will wear thru the hardening on rollers, the inside of the idler gear and the idler shaft faster causing it to wear out sooner than the counterpart with the larger diameter idler shaft. the larger cavity also allows more oil flow not only keeping things lubricated but also cooler.

obviously i'm not the only one who believes in this theory. otherwise, why would toyota have made these design changes?!

i'm sure there are plenty of 34mm cases out there with lots of miles on them. i'm sure yours is not the only one that has gone over 200k without a failure. and there's nothing wrong with them; they're a great t-case and i definetly favor them over the earlier one-piece cases.

having said all that, i'd still try to find a later 60 series or 62 series (roller bearing supported gears versus the bushings) split transfer case if i was looking for one for a project..........

i don't base this opinion on hear-say. i worked in the transmission industry for 12 years and have rebuilt quite a few split cases. i do not claim to be an "expert" but i have put in my time and done my homework on these cases.
