Does anyone have any pictures of a fj55 with an external roll cage?

I am considering making one that will look similar to the rover cages that bolt on to the body below the window frame. From there I would tie to the frame using hidden supports. I have only found one link in all my web surfing that is suppost to be a picture of a cage like I would like to build, but it no longer worked. I would really like to see a picture if anyone happens around one so I can decide if this is the route I want to take or not.

Cheers!

Those are awesome builds but not quite what I am looking for. I want to bolt through the cab so only the top half of the roll bar is visible. The dead link I found for one similar was out of Australia. Thanks for helping, these builds are helping me get a better vision of what it may look like. :-)

Many of the bars below the belt line on my rig don't have any paint on them anymore. If you want function over form I would go all the way down.

Of course, that depends on how and where you wheel.

I'm honestly not a fan of the way exo cages look, but I use the body as a rock/tree slider all the time.

Does anyone know how to resize those pictures, to get a better look. How do you think he mounted it, just through the side of the body. I like the look, on the Rover, not sure yet on the 55.

Thanks for the pictures, Ron

To resize the picture you will have to save to computer and zoom in or enlarge the view on your internet viewer... of course you will get a larger blurrier picture.

I'm not sure how he mounted the fj's, it would need to be tied to the frame or it would be kinda pointless to go through this much work for a "show cage".

Safetydevices.c o m has a diagram of how the defenders are tied to the frame. It's copywrited so I didn't copy it here. They manufacture the land rover cages.

It appears there is room on the FJ55 to tie the front and rear mounts to the frame relatively easy. The hoop behind the rear seat would probably have to be exposed inside the interior to adequately tie it to the frame and maybe would benefit from a crossbar between the sides behind the rear seat. The "b?" pillar mount behind the driver’s door would have to be attached to the sheetmetal using nut zerts or something, I suppose, and would only be used to add some rigidity to the entire rack and not provide much support by itself.

I'm considering adding a sliding ragtop to the 55, if I go through with it, I will definitely build a similar roll cage since I would be losing a lot of structural roof support for roll over protection with the large ragtop.
top.
