Hey guys I am looking at buying a Right hand drive 1981 troopy. I honestly do not like the ambulance doors. I wonder how hard it would be to convert it to the other style doors. And or what most people do with their troopies. Leave the ambulance doors and take the hard top off and get a tail gate for it?

Also what do you guys use to make a take the whole hard top off and make it a single cab 45. This is going to be my first land cruiser period and much help is appreciated.

Some notes...there are some threads on here about switching out the ambulance doors for the tailgate/barn door/lift hatch, but honestly don't know much about it myself. From the little I've read, it isn't overly easy...I believe the pitch of the back walls changed when they went to the ambulance doors, so there is some engineering that is involved. And you just can't take the hard top off and swap it for an earlier model like an FJ40.

As far as making it a single cab...not too sure...but I think that was custom work done out of Australia. I've only seen a couple on here that were troopys that were turned into the truck beds. Again...pretty sure its one solid body for the most part and would most likely take some engineering and custom work. Don't know how much experience you have in that area.
