Looking to make a rear canvas top for my FJ45 SWB. Havent seen any photos showing a factory top. Anyone have a rear top on their swb? Like this only for a cruiser:

Here are a couple more views of the same truck provided by Greenspan. Easiest solution would be to use the soft top frame from a 40.

Ohhhhh How I miss my 1956 Series 1 107" pickup. I sold it about a year ago and it now resides in Ohio to a Series 1 collector. :frown:

As far as a canvas cover for a SWB 45, I was thinking of doing the same to mine. I was thinking something similar to the one posted.

Tyler shouldnt have all the fun. I've still got two series one pickups but he has talked me out of an 80 and an 86. Everytime I drive the rovers Im reminded how modern and practical and refined the FJ is. Just need to keep my stuff dry. My fj like many other FJ45 swbs I have seen has the hooks on the side of the bed. Was this a dealer install? Seems like almost every 45 swb has them, including the one pictured.

Special Recon units of the Australian Army used troopies in Northern Australia where the availability of parts was better than the Landrover 110s which were standard at the time. These came with canvas but were never an OEM part, being manufactured by a Defence contractor. I've only ever seen a couple of these ex-military vehicles in the flesh. The vehicles were HJ47s, but they may give you some ideas for an FJ45

Here's a good link for info: ArmyCruisers

And some pics from the link...

I kinda like where they put the taillights on the Ausie troopy modification, up high.

There was a discusion a few years ago about the side hooks and I thought it was determined that they are an add on, not OEM.

It seems that the Australian Market got a rather unique array of options in there trucks that we never were offered. Plus they seem to have more vehicles laying around in the outback. the soft top troopy does look really nice.

How did you know that I sold my 107" to Tyler? He must be a pretty well known collector. I was just thinking the other day about my 107". I might email him to see what he is doing to it.

I was kind of thinking of getting another Rover. I'd like to find an 86" but there is an 88" just sitting pretty close to me. It has not moved in years and I hear the guy might be interested in selling it.

I also know of a 109" regular that is factory diesel that is about 15 miles from me. I hear those older diesels are not the greatest but it might be kind of fun. I talked to the guy a few years ago. I should check in with him to see what he is doing with it.

My SWB 45 has the hooks that you are referring to. I figured it was a common aftermarket thing to. Mine are bolted in with Standard hardware. I guess they could be a dealer install or just maybe a common thing to do.

The rover community is a small one, and the midwest is not really a hotbed. He has also purchased a lot of stuff from me, so it wasn't hard to figure out who you were referring to. Sounds like you have a few potential replacements. If you snag one post up on the guns and rovers board, lots of folks there to help you out. As for the hooks, seems like every FJ45 I have seen has the same hook/hardware combo, seems too common and uniform to be a owner mod . . . would be essential for a top.
