G'day All,

Is there a section or a club on Mud dedicated to Troopies? If not, I think there should be. It seems that we fall into the FJ45 4 door group, but I would love to have our own area (I love the old FJ45's, don't get me wrong- troopies are just unique). Henry James? Hltopper? David?

If anyone knows how to set up a specific forum, let me know- I'd be happy to do it. There are SO MANY troopies in the US now, there really ought to be a site- so we can at least find out how many of them there are on Mud.

Cheers,

Josh

Good to know, thanks Jerod. Maybe we can do an in-formal survey to find out how many troopies there are on the list. I brought my HJ47 to the States in 1997, and at that time, there were between 8-15 in the US (I knew of 8, but had heard rumours of as many as 15). I know of over 25 now. Marv reckons there could be nearly 100 in the US now- which is just amazing! I'd love to see more in the US than in Australia in a few years time (it might even be that way now- I almost never see them here any more).

Maybe we can make this the site for Troopies- anyone interested in posting pics of their troopies here? Specs, mods, plans, queries, etc.

Cheers,

Josh

Wouldn't be bad to know. I know Bull and I are on the list!

You could PM Bull, he's got a better bearing on ownership I think.

i have to agree with not splitting this up. there are few enough 45s and 47s in the states. splitting up the forums would make things to "cliquy" and word would'nt get out, info would'nt be exchanged as well as it does not.

and fwiw, i do own an hj45 and an hj47. i'm also doing a major build-up on a customer's hj47 right now. rod has the info for all of them i believe. :grinpimp:

Well I have 3 at the shop. Georg has 3 at his shop :)

Judging from registry entries and owners here on mud I would say there is under 30 in the states, but that number is growing.

i bet there's closer to 100 in the states. bill has brought in 5 or 6, michael has brought in 20 or more, then there's the other guy in FL, marv, the guys in CT, a guy in TX, two more people in socal, seth,........and a bunch of guys who have brought them in themsleves.

I have had 6 of them and sold them all but one. I would say there are well over 100 of them .
Actually come to think of it I might of been one of the first to have a troopie here in the states. I had a 1984 troopie out of holland and I believe that was in 1993. Josh came to look at it way back (patches84). But I could be wrong.

I stand corrected..

Great Georg, I don't feel as special now.

JK.

I don't think the forum should be split either, I was just wondering who all had Troopies. We should be able to tell that REAL easy.

G'day James!

You are not wrong, and we have been occational mates ever since(c: Yours was the second Troopie I ever laid eyes on (the first was when I was in high school in Boulder, Colorado. I saw a green troopie from Germany while I was driving through Nederland, and I was smitten from then on- my '83 FJ40 just wasn't doing it for me after that(c:

I went to see James' troppie in Patchoque, and that was when I realised that having one in the States was realistic- I just had to be a determined. I did count yours in the 8 that I knew of in the States when I brought mine over in early 97. I went through the ones that I know of now, and came up with 37- and that is just the ones which I know without doubt exist in the US.

My goal is to send over as many as I can- anyone needing a bit of assistence, just let me know. I tried to buy the cleanest 84 FJ45 pop top i've ever seen about a year ago, but two Canadians got to it after I was told it was mine... it is now a surf wagon, circling Australia and camping on the beaches.. RIP.

Cheers,

Josh

I've brought in 5 or 6 troopies and a couple 45 pickups. have a 47 crew cab on the way

I'd say over 100. I know Cruiser Solutions has a line of restos waiting to be done. Prices have gone down too which means supply is catching up with demand.

Yes, supply/demand is a problem. I know of a decent number of really clean LHDs which will come one the market fairly soon, and that will drive the price of RHDs down even more. I just want to see more Troopies go to the US, where they will be appreciated. The problem is that cars are just SO expensive here in Australia, and with Aussie dollar so inflated, it really makes it something that you can only buy if you want a Troopie for yourself; there is really no profit in 'em anymore.

Cheers,

Josh
