1977 FJ45
6 cyl 2F
4 speed man trans
odometer : indicating 122,000 miles (?)
I bought the truck from my uncle two years ago. He had bought it from a guy in +-1999. This guy had done a terrible restoring job on it in +-1990 (used plastic putty !). My uncle was hoping to restore it himself...but finally gave in to my very persistent nagging and sold it to me! He had too many projects already in the works...('72 FJ40 and '58 Land Rover).
Here is what I have done so far (all work done during winter 2005/2006; was ready to drive June 2006) :
- no plastic putty/filler was used.
- all sheet metal was sandblasted, primed & painted (PPG paint), this includes interior.
- doors were cut at the midsection to remove rusted/putty bottom halves and bottoms were replaced w/new 16Ga sheetmetal.
- new front fenders.
- both bed sides were removed and new 16Ga sheetmetal was bent to original specs. No ext side hooks were installed.
- bottom of windscreen was really rusted and I had a new bottom half built.
- tailgate not restored yet (but I have it!)
- I have the original seats but these need to be re-upholstered...I use more comfy minivan seats with armrests.
- rollbar and wheels are original (sandblasted, primed, painted).
- new turn signals in front.
- all rubber gaskets ; for hard top, windscreen and doors are in good shape.
- windscreen hinges work perfectly and are rust free. (new stainless screws).
- new hood clips.
- 100% rebuilt carb.
- new brake master cylinder, brake lines and rear shoes.
- new leaf springs front and rear.
- new BFG T/A KO 31'' tires.
- new speedometer cable.
- new running boards/side steps.
- no rust!
I must have forgotten something...but that gives you an idea! This is not a show truck, but it is a really nice solid truck that I had planned to keep as my summer ride...but I have been collecting too many trucks and not enough cars! Seriously, I have four trucks and want to keep only two and find an old muscle car (i.e. '67-'69 Camaro convertible...Barrett Jackson Auction trip coming soon!!!). I also own a TLC BJ70 1985 diesel, a 2007 FJ Cruiser and a Nissan Titan (support vehicle!)
Feel free to call me if you have anything more specific you want to know about...
The truck is in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada (about 170 miles east of
Montreal...)
