Hello i recently bought this 45 but when i start my engine it smokes black so today i pulled out the sparkplugs and they are black and dirty and were wet also. I did a compression test and all cylinders were between 152 and 160 psi. I ordered new sparkplugs but think the carb is overfuelling. Since i'm more a diesel kind of guy and most landcruisers here are diesels i don't really know how to set up the carb or is there something i can check? Anyone got tips?

1. Take off the air cleaner. Start the truck. If you can see gas dribbling out of the diagonal bronze tubes, the carburetor is flooding. Usually a sign that dirt or corrosion has stopped the float from pushing the needle into the seat.

2. If the problem is not as readily apparant, you can also check fuel level via the sight glass on the front of the carb. If you can't see the gas, it might be overly full, in which case you can pull one of the two 14mm plugs below the sight glass to drain some of the gas out and then watch your fuel level once the engine is restarted.

FWIW, you probably would have gotten a faster response if you'd posted this in the 40 section; it's not really a 45 specific problem.
