I have a 1967 FJ40. Per original owner, it supposedly came from the factory with a soft top. I just noticed the VIN Plate says the model is an FJ40L. What does the L indicate or were they all FJ40L's in 67?

Thanks!

Our 68 is also a FJ40L, I assumed it refered to left hand drive

Well this is printed within the first few pages of a 1965 Parts Catalogue and it supports the L standing for LHD:

Japan is a RHD country so in the early days I believe they saw no need to use R to signify right-hand-drive (because it was "the norm")

Thank you much for clearing that up!
