I'm up here in Canada,Ontario, but would pay for shipping.
I have the hard top/ambulance doors now, but want to buy a soft top for the spring. This is still very new to me, and I'm a newbie to the hole Fj world.Loving it so far!!!
What is a fair price for these things? from what i've read, I can use a Fj45 tailgate.is this true? with no mod'in?

Here's my 1980 Fj40, it needs work,( mostly paint & some body wrok) but one day it'll be nice. Good truck to start with, only 47,oooKm's on er.Old man, next door had it from day1:D

The 45 tail gate will be way too wide to fit the hole at the rear. Plus an unmolested 45 tailgate is worth enough that you could sell it and get many cool parts made to fit the rear opening.

Buy a pre-made panel or go to the nearest sheet metal shop and ask them to bend you one on a brake.

thank you for the info on the Fj45, the old man has a break in his shop that I can use if need be. I just figured it would be nice to get a OEM 1/2 rear doors.
But is this a good after market tailgate? http://coolfj40.stores.yahoo.net/tailgatefj40.html

cause it don't look to hard to make.:D and would this hook onto a soft top i buy?

Banger.

the only thing I don;'t like about that is... the hinges look like sh*t without anything there. I think, I would make mine hook onto the factory hinges. I really don;t like the look of emty hinges.( as seen in pic.)
Anyone got a nice looking booty fab tailgate, that hooks onto the factory hinges that i could see a pic of. plz & thank you.

I guess, that those hinges are for the tire carrie. :) d'oh

heritage sheet metal has new "short wheel base 45/40 soft top" drop down gates.

the 45 long wheel base is a non fit.

I've fitted a drop down gate to a 1981 tub and it fits pretty easy without mods.

I went on this site heritage sheet metal , cool site. Not cheap stuff, thats for sure! by the time I pay exchange & shipping & duty & other stuff. OMG:o It'd be almost what I paid for the truck.lol ( good rule of thumb, when I order from the US, is double the listed price:mad: after all is said and done)
I guess, I'll have to make one.

thanks for the info. And the kool site.

hey man

i'd keep my eyes peeled on here and on ebay for the early 40 series rear swing out doors.

here's one on ebay (no relation to seller...just searched and found it):

these doors will look really stock but do require a bit of fabbing to match up to the later tubs that had ambulance doors...check the FAQ i think there are some threads on this conversion.

Thank you, i'd already seen that, the very 1st day it came out on Ebay. And email'd him right away to see if he had the other one.

He said, he only had one.:frown: I think, I'll end up just making one. but it won't swing out.:crybaby:
