I have a '73 fj40. I recall seeing a picture a long time ago in the past of an older fj40 with the roof removed and a camper on the back. Does anyone know where I could find a link or more information about an fj40 camper??
That built on is a really neat idea. I found Innovation Campers in Europe,
language unknown, but I think that is where the blue one came from. A friend
saw one in Dawson City, Yukon last summer and sent me a bunch of pics.
Still looking for the slide in idea, I found an old ad for the K-5 Blazer with a slide-in camper after the fibreglass top was removed. I'm going to keep looking.
Just for laughs and giggles contact SixPac Camoers.com and look over what the have, it may surprise you. There are a lot of mini truck campers sitting in yards around So Cal, and I am sure in other areas as well, Great start though.
I think the Blazer Chalet review was in the very first copy of Pickup, Van, and 4-Wheel Drive that I ever read.
The idea is OK with a reliable chassis. I like that 40 and the way the back end is tubbed so that water can't come in the back way unless you really guessed too shallow -- and it wasn't
I've seen that on other rigs before and saw other advantages, like departure angle, but didn't realize how this could help substantially in a deep water crossing. Judged right and the extra buoyancy from the rear might tend to help push the front axle down for better traction.
Not that a 40 is going to be amphibious, but I like it.
