Oils someone help me find the difference between the leaf spring shackles on different model years?
I found that 1963-7/1980 has different shackles then 8/1980-1984, but I can't find what was different?
Did Toyota used a wider spring? May be its something else?

Thanks for the link. I looked in many places, but not there.
So I can see the only difference is:
1963-7/80 were 2-3/4" pin-to-pin
8/80-1984 were 3" pin-to-pin
Seems Toyota unified the shackles with 60-series which were 3" as well, while in 62-series they bump it to 3-1/2".

The pins also increased in diameter with larger spring eye/bushing. Different frame mounting points/hangers.

So 60s are not the same as 40s in pin diameter?
I completely missed this information.
I know 40s are 15mm pins. How much are 60s, 18mm?

Springs/pins/hangers changed on the later 40's. If that change over date is correct then 8/80, which corresponds to BJ40 changing to BJ42, which had different susp parts, so makes sense. The late version pins were same diameter as used on 60's. Don't recall if they were same length between 40/60/70, possibly not. The early pins were smaller diameter, 15mm sounds right.

My (12/79 build) 1980 FJ40 has 18mm pins.

I ended up using big eye bushings and putting them in on my earlier 40 series. Required a little modification but not so much that it would be hard for someone else to replicate.

I Got the larger bushings and smaller bushings, larger pins and used my original hangers. To make the big eye bushings fit I took them on the lathe/belt sander to remove a bit of the "collar" from them so they fit correctly into my hangers. I used the big eye bushing on the leaf side and the small eye bushing on the frame side.

Ended up working out fine :)

None of these components are OEM/Toyota but the photos illustrate the differences in both fixed pins and shackles:

So I've got a small eye 1980 and I'm replacing the bushings and shackles as part of my covid rebuild.

Problem: small eye hangers (& therefore bushings and hangers) but at some point the truck got large eye springs, not sure what brand.

Small eye pin is 15mm, bushings OD is 25mm.

Large eye is 35mm, but pin is 18mm.

You can see in the picture that the red bushing fits (15mm pin BUT 35mm OD). I can reuse them if needed but SOMEONE got these red ones from somewhere. Also...yes I know in the picture my shackle is backwards, it's for illustration purposes.

Anyone else have similar need for 'adapter' bushings? Solutions?

Use OME or Rough Country bushings, those are Ø35/15 mm.
