I saw a YouTube video the other day of a 1971 FJ40 that had a mechanical Overdrive. It was a lever to the left of the shifter, and had 2 positions, Forward, and Back. One the older man called Overdrive Low, and the other he called Overdrive High. Can anyone tell me more about that? Is that something that "IF" I could find it, could be added to mine? I know we aren't supposed to put links in our posts, so if you go to YouTube and search "1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 cold start and 2-speed overdrive demo" posted by "Motionshooter Photography" you should find it.

Thanks!

Use the search function for this section or internet and add fj40 and look for Fairey Overdrive.

Fairey ODs have been out of production, obsolete unobtaininum for over 40 years.

Ranger ODs have been out of production, obsolete and unobtainium for 10 or more.

IF you find a used Fairey, it is 99.999% certain that the input gear is toast. Replacement parts have been... out of production, obsolete unobtaininum for over 40 years.

If you find a used Ranger that needs parts, replacement parts have been...out of production, obsolete unobtaininum for 10 or more years.

Fairey went out of business and all of their parts, manufacturing equipment and even blueprints were destroyed. The Ranger units (from Advance Adapters) died due to lack of market interest.

No OD units out there for Land Cruiser drivetrains. Most people who might have bought the OD units in the past, buy H55Fs now.
