Curious if anyone has ever thought of replacing the rear solid glass on a lift gate with a pop-out or sliding style window. I have solid rear side windows without the side pop-outs so I get zero air flow. Seems no one makes sliding rear windows anymore and finding and shipping used ones is getting harder. This would give atleast some airflow through the cab.

I would guess an RV shop or custom window/glass shop could make or already make a pop-out assembly to fit the current opening or one slightly bigger that could be riveted in. Probably not too crazy a price …..

Any thoughts

How about raising the lift gate?

Might get some dust inside but that's gonna happen no matter. It's amazing how well the rear supports work with the gas struts inside and the lock nuts tightened.

I spend a big portion of the summer with the hatch up. Only on the driest, dusty washboard roads do I drop the hatch.

^^^ My thought on this is the stock supports are suspect while parked. Perhaps with gas strut mod I’d be more trusting of the hatch staying up.

I usually just lift the gate but yeah… the struts are a concern on support . I also like the thought of just a slight opening on the glass wouldn’t be really noticeable while driving around but still let air flow through.

Definitely not any easy solution it seems.

got the window out to do some minor paint/body work on the liftgate so I got the exact measurements and a nice cardboard cut out of the opening.

Been looking online for anything close in size that could be riveted from the front side but haven’t found anything yet that I think would work.

34 3/8 X 14 5/8 is the size of the cutout to include the gasket lip.

Just checked sor and I guess they don't offer the cargo sliders anymore? Huh, glad I got mine a few years back I guess, they make a massive difference in air flow. Maybe keep an eye out or post a wanted ad in the classifieds?

Yeah…. Seems to be a lot of interest in them so I’m surprised they discontinued them.
