Looking around in our section I see one big flaw. On the registory count I see a lot of FJ25LBs when I don't believe I have ever seen a B type FJ25 that was imported to the US. I remember Phil has or had one. It was part of two parts vehicles he bought together. I believe it was #39/#40 and #40 being a B type but with a VIN in Spanish. Some early FJ40s were imported with a soft top and barns doors but don't believe the FJ25s were. Standard type was probably never exported out of Japan and probably dropped pretty early. Even the seven 1956 FJ25s from the JDM brought to Peru were A type. The one surviving has a tire carrier mix with standard type base attached to the tub. Pretty sure Toyota dropped the A style bows before 1960 in favor of the B style since the A style wouldn't work with jump seats. Then with the FJ40s the bows that were B were now A and B being the style which used the ambulance doors in back. Another cool option we never seen to get in the US.
On the VIn plate color black was the older but how they switched is going to hard to figure out. I own four 1960 FJ25s. Oldest one is black, second oldest is MIA and the two newest are silver. Pattern? Well I have two 1961 FJ40s and both are black. It may have been a port of delivery thing. This VIN plate could only being used on Land Cruiser since the FA trucks were never imported and the Toyopet didn't have a F engine. But a FJ25 and FJ40 could have use the same tag stamped at the port. We know the FJ40 was being sold before all the FJ25s were gone. Different ports may have used up the old tags they had sooner and switched to the later style while other ports were still using the old style. If something was on the tag showing where it was imported it would have helped a lot.
