The 80 series with lockers is a far better deal for $1600 than the 60 series for $100.

The cost of lockers fitted to the 60 series axles, after the fact, is going to be far in excess of $1600. The 80 series have the high pinion and steering layout you're looking for, which will save time and money on parts that you're otherwise going to have spend time and money solving - it's spend now, or spend later - and you're going to be getting more up to date parts with the 80 series parts.

Add to that, if you get the right vintage, much larger brakes and 4 wheel discs...

Hmm some good points there John, what year would you recommend I look for then. They are just so darn hard to find.

But you are right thats what every seems to do.

Yes you are right my bad...:o

And yes lots LR owners to the the LC80 axle swap. But thats so much more money. I found a set of 80 axle on the mainland for 1600 with locking diffs.
But I got both my f/r 60 axle for 100 bucks . So I figure it would be cheaper to build those up.

But feel free to prove me wrong on those 80 for price.

Don't worry, we're all cheap too! Without relocating the drag link you might have to do the 4x4 labs steering to keep the tie rod on the back. You should be able to mock up the high steer arms you have and get a good idea if the pan hard bracket will fit.
