anybody know of someplace to get upgraded steering components for an ifs 4runner?

Marlink isn't going to work for me for obvious reasons.

is there a heim joint kit or something???
the TRE on the end of my pitman arm just took a dump this weekend. thought i might upgrade everything if i can.

found that total chaos has a set for their "caddy" kit. they would obviously be a little long for use on otherwise stock 4runner control arms, but it was a starting point.

however, i felt they were smokin' a little crack on the price point. lol

Get some heavy wall tube, some heim joints and go to town. If I was planning on keeping my IFS, i would probably go this route.

that is probably what i am going to do. i think i might find some spares to hack up though, just in case it doesnt work out, cause i am going to have to drill out my pitman and idler to accept bolts instead of tapered tres as well as the center drag link.

i might go crazy and weld up my drag link like total chaos did in the link above. there isnt anything there i couldnt do for less than 20% of that cost. its just outrageous how much they want for that. and then you have to go buy all of their other ridiculously priced stuff to go with it.

I don't know about where you are, but heim joints would not pass inspection here for steering parts. They are not weatherproof, eventually the ball part can rust and they can come apart. Only booted greased TREs are allowed.

we dont have inspections here, but are they really that vulnerable?
i thought they were pretty bullet proof

The strait axle guys use the fj80 TRE's may have to clean up the taper..

That is what I see for guys that wheel their junk. Some minor fab work is needed, but it a stonger alternative than stock.

However, stock toyota Ball joints and TRE are damm strong. I have never broke one.

rayjon and snob,

i would still have to make all my links if i used the 80 joints right?
i mean my center drag link is sized for the mini truck stuff obviously but if i opened up the taper i would still have to remake all of the tie rods cause the shaft diameter is probably bigger right?

The TRE will screw into the relay rod with the adjusting sleeves, but you will need to make the taper bigger on the joint itself.

so the threaded portion of the 80 rod ends is the same pitch and diameter as the stock mini truck joints? just has a bigger ball-joint on the end??
interesting.
so i could go buy two left hand and four right hand stock fj80 rod ends, increase the taper on the drag link, and idler arm, and get the marlin pitman with the 80 taper already in it, and everything would screw together?
then have complete fj80 steering joints?

not a bad option

I ran some heim joint steering on my '94 years ago. It was great and eliminated any bind during extreme travel and flying around. I was snapping the ends off my centerlink due to to much down travel. I got mine from some place called baja racing products or something like that. Total Chaos type of stuff. My only complaint is that they would get dry and squeaky with road spray and weather. I also don't care much for the stock tie rod peices. They rust up and get cumbersome. If I was in your shoes I would get some custom length links made to fit the FJ80 rod ends.
