Of course the Fire guys want you to let it burn so they have a fully engulfed car to play with. They'll never make the news if you put it out with a $5 Kmart extinguisher.

Thats a Firefighter glamour shot. :D What's the first piece of equipment off the rig. The Camera.

Nothing I saw in that article would make me think twice about extingushing a small fire in my vehicle. But then again I plan on using some common sense. Judging the severity of the fire by amount of smoke and heat ect...

Well, I never got into it for the news coverage I can promise you that, and those that do find that the general public could give a @&@&@&@& about them anyway. I was throwing that article in for some general facts/figures that is all. A good deal of car fires are put out by people w/fire extinguishers and guess what? I am all for it! I didn't link the article to stop people from helping out if they can, it was more on the line some trivia facts. My only thought or feeling is that the safety is the key issue for everyone.
(Accidents happen even when using common sense)
I will now exit stage left!

What are you corrected on?

I think as a vehicle owner I would do what I could, as a firefighter I say it is just a vehicle and that's why you pay insurance and it's not worth getting hurt.

I said "99% of auto fires are electrical.", and the link you posted said it was actually only 23%.

Scott - Just some good natured ribbing. I work with Fire and Rescue every day and have a great deal of respect for them.
