I think its just fine with the stock gears and the 35's. Its good around town and it cruises nice on the highway.

Are those locking pop pins or regular pop pins that you used? are your struts single acting or double acting? Trying to do the same type of things that you did and just started looking at parts. Thanks

They are not locking, post #67 has what I used. The struts are single acting.

This might be a old thread but I wanted to say I like your build. The idea of having the rtt low for travel and high for camp is awesome. I may do something similar. I hope you didn't pay too much attention to post 54. The comments were in poor taste. I think your trailer is awesome.

Cheers thanks!

Trailer update!

Changed the axle to match the width and bolt pattern of the cruiser. Also changed the tires to the 9.00 XL's

G'day mate
Have you put some sort of rubber seal between the trailer and the lid?? If not do you get much water in it when it rains?? I'm looking at copying your design for a no.5 trailer here in Australia but I would like to make it dust proof and water proof if it's possible to do so!!
Cheers
Ben

With similar lids I've seen installed like this, a "bulb" type seal is used. It's like a piece of rubber weatherstripping/gasket that is hollow inside to make it extra squishy to provide a good seal all around.

Is it just glued to the lid or does it need to be installed a certain way?? I want to be able to remove the lid completely to use the trailer separately so I don't want to attach rubber strips to the actual trailer

The bulb seal was glued to the underside of the lip on the lid AFAIK. Even if you don't take the lid off, you want it that way, because having it on the top lip of the trailer would cause you to drag stuff across it just getting things in and out. That would be good from the get-go for the life of the thing.

Yes, but, with the seal attached to the lid and the lid being removable, the seal gets damaged while being un/installed and stored too. I did this very thing trying to remove and store my lid with tent still mounted last winter. It's heavy and awkward. Still better to have it on the lid for general usage.

Makes me wonder if instead of a seal on one side of the lid, instead have two and protect them. The key would be finding two sets of channel, one that would nest inside the other when the open parts of the channel are brought together. Then install the seal inside the channel, centered, inside both channels. The lower channel would need to be strong enough to lean against and haul gear over. Spec the bulb seal so that it's about 2/3 the overall height of the channels. When the lide closes and the two compress, there should be enough room for them to seal tightly, with the channels protecting the seals on both sides.

You have a lot of channels there!

Here is what I did: I put two seals around the whole lid and a guard around the outside.

From my build thread post #89

Kevin,
So the two parallel seals straddle the lip on your M101 CDN's home-built lid? Or did you widen the bed lip, which it looks like you may have? Just trying to picture how they mate up.

Here is a screen shot of the lid upside down showing a corner. The seal I used pushes onto the two inner flanges and the outer one is just to protect them a bit.
