I am after an....as close to a 2010 Model 76 (or a 75 pick up) with the 1HZ engine, manual and diesel. Really after what might me also known as the "workmate" level specs.....Basic, unmodified. For importation into Canada.

Where is the best place to look? The only for sure source I have run across is a company here in Canada that can Import from Japan...but I noticed most of those trucks are some kind of gentrified higher spec models, and often with auto transmissions.

I have also noticed a few on industrial auctions overseas but the oldest was a 2011 so far.

It surprised me that with the multitudes of these trucks being produced and exported to "rest of world" locations that there was not a healthy population up for grabs.

I assume the Middle East would be the go to market for a LHD 76 or 79 Series.

From around 2005-2014, they didn't sell the 70 series in Japan. Australia would probably be your best bet. Personally, I'd choose the 1VD V8 engine over the 1HZ which was introduced in 2007.

Thanks fellas

Im fine with the V8 diesel version,

I have been lead to believe the 1HZ inline 6, 4.2 Diesel is the premier choice for reliability. Apparently it can run on a mixture of gold/diamond dust, rhino piss and akarra frying oil. Thing is I have no experience with diesel repairs and maintenance.

im also OK with an RHD model.

Unlike the 1HZ, the V8 will be less tolerant of low quality fuel.

If you are in Canada check out B-Pro imports. They importing all types of JDM vehicles to the Canadian market. They seem legit. In the process of pulling the trigger on 76 with the 1HZ. Still torn on the whole automatic vs. manual gear box. Most Japanese spec cruiser seem to have the auto option.

The base spec 70s will likely be working vehicles ttpically in poor condition.

The JDM 70s are in good condition because they were used as ordinary passenger vehicles. You could try Europe for 70 Series diesels, but they are likely to have rust issues. You might get a well maintained overland/camper conversion.

Middle East (GCC) prefers petrol. Australia could also be a target market, but expect well-used examples.

Yeah but is that what you need in Toronto? Or anywhere in Canada? Or anywhere in North America? Do you mean to ship it to Africa and go to the Congo or Somalia? Do you mean to drive it from London to Beijing?

Japan Car Direct is another good option for auctions/importing, in addition to the other businesses mentioned.

Whichever business you go with, I'd suggest paying a bit extra for a pre-auction inspection if they offer it. Won't give you all the information on condition/issues, but some is better than none.

Budget? Want to do some work yourself?

Have a frame off with brand new body on the go. 1hz 5speed. Im into another build at the moment and wisdom says sell.
