Wait, that's all?!?! One picture of a road sign and we're all suppose to divine the existential purpose to the next 10 days of your life? I mean I get a picture is worth 10K words and all that, but I'm currently not under the influence of any drugs and I'm having a hard time getting into your mind from just that one picture.

Bang..... The Dr. Speaks.

Bang..... The Dr. Speaks.
If you can't provide more pictures, at least provide the appropriate drugs that will paint the pictures. ;)

So, I'm always at a negative starting point:

1. I am always wrenching 20 mins before I hit the road

2. I hate cooking and most of these trips require a cooking aspect.

3. I am always under prepared because of my own inherent situations and lack of spare time.

4. My road is most of the time the longest: this time I was close. Alex and Jason traveled farther this time, thus I have no excuses.

5. Did I say I am usually the worst prepared.

Dude: You're On the Road. On the Road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You are Sal Paradise. Let's hear the story.

I think we all were on a vision quest here, minus the mushrooms. I want to know what you have to say. When you disappear into the desert for 3 weeks you learn things. We all would like to share this knowledge.

6. You were out of beer and smokes when you left us.

100% correct.

Anyone that does not know me already knows that tobacco is essential in my life as is imbibing. And you all well know that I am a simple son of a bitch.

@PabloVTA And @FJ60Cam were nice enough to look over my ill planning and each gave me libations so I could catch a buzz.

And I am thankful to them.

The pics of you @beno, in the truck with the top down and tooling around reminds me of the the book "Who Needs A Road".

So as the story goes.... I left the campground at Halls Crossing. Last person I saw was @PabloVTA ...

He had finished his shower and me mine. I fixed my soft top and hit the road. North on 276. Epic. The road out of Halls is just awesome. You don't see any other people for almost 2 hrs.... Almost to Comb Ridge ... One of largest monoclines in the world....

There is very little road traffic towards Halls Crossing; most of the traffic is coming down 95/276 from the Ticaboo side towards Bullfrog...vehicles and boats from SLC/north from I-70.

So I head to Blanding to get smokies... Its late afternoon/early evening. Get smokies and head into Moab which at this time in the season is a booming metropolis... Sort of like Abbey saw it when he came down from the who-do pinnacles, towers, arches and bridges of Arches .... Almost 65 years ago...

I get to Moab and it feels immediately claustrophobic. I was chatting with @jfz80 via text and told Jason that I would meet up with them if they were around.... Coolio.... They were present and accounted for...

Had a great dinner and we parted ways.

At that point I wanted a bed... A real bed... A big bed... A bed in a room with a sink, and a shower, and well a big bed.... Moab has those. They are not cheap this time of year.

To give you an idea, I came with a group at the beginning of December 2015 and the same room (size-wise) that I paid $79.99 in Decemeber was $199.99 in May in Moab.

Supply-demand. Period.

And like all good Utah businesses, they have different menus with different prices for the high season and low season. I knew this and have known it for almost a decade.... But, when in Rome do as our friendly Romans do

Big thanks to Richard for dinner.... Very awesome of him considering I had, as always, too many shots of tequila.

Because this story is, well, 5th dimension holy epic...

...and also i guess the word's getting out that the CLC board is sort of like the basement of MUD... Little hidden corner of the internet where all the bad kids hang out and smoke and look at creeper shots and engage in other varieties of borderline, off-color antics...

The animals have been in the zoo for awhile; the civilized patrons are now coming out to point, laugh and throw peanuts at us...

I was absolutely loving that section of highway. We were fortunate in a way that all of our backtracking occurred on that stretch. No traffic and endless amazing views. No complaints here.

Well no traffic untill you snap a picture of course

After an agreeable meal I retire for the night. Next day I was early and head north of Moab to the cross roads town of Green River, UT.

My main intent in going there was to go to the River History Museum.

Great small gem of a museum right on the Green River (obviously) ....

Then head west and then south towards the old Mormon settlement of Hanksville.

I've been going to Hanksville for almost ten years..... Mainly to go to Blondie's...

A small dive on the Bullfrog road at the junction of 24/276.

Great burgers and great breakfast. No beer though.

Blondie's is unfortunately changing its name due to a dispute between the new owners and the former owner. They haven't decided on a name yet but it will always be Blondie's to me.

After an agreeable meal, time to head off to the Henry Mountain range. Goal was to get to MacMillan Springs campsite for the night. The road is very easy:. Gravel to dirt and then a climb to about 7500 ft.

You follow 50 Mile Mesa south and then turn east into the Henrys.

The Henry Mountain range was the last Mountain range to be discovered, explored and named. Very remote, very beautiful and quite unique compared to the landscape around it:

Once climbing about 1.5hrs to about 8k feet, the wind and coolness took over. I could barely have a fire that night due to the howling winds.... Probably sustained at 25-30mph throughout the night.

Ate a quick meal and read and then sleep. Of course, no cell phone access or anything so really just quite perfect.

Epic views of 50 Mile Mesa, the San Rafael Reef, and far in the distance the Waterpocket Fold....
