Can you get a extra large tank for that bike? I thought they had a range of 100m?

yes you can get a larger tank for it. the range on the stock
3.4 gal tank is around 140 miles, all i've ever needed in Baja...

... of course it took me a while to figure that out. :D

Great links but I still couldnt find on OKA's site what engine or even the capacity of the engine:confused:

I like the concept of the OKA being built from mainly off the shelf parts from worldwide companies that can be bought anywhere;)

I couldn't find it on there either but on the Susi & Ruedi link. There truck is the first one of the new NT model and they have all the specs on the site.

Nice:D

Motor

"Cummins" ISBE 170 30
4 cylinder; 4 liter; common rail turbo diesel;
170 HP 125 kW @ 2500 rpm; 600 Nm @ @ 1500 rpm

Gearbox

"New Venture" NV4500HD
5 speed manual

I really like the OKAs I reckon they are ideal for the type of long range expedition work I want to do. The 80 is great for two people but I have a family on the way and I am looking at a larger vehicle. The cruiser is at its maximum GVM at the moment in touring spec and by the time I add extra gear for the kids it will be overweight by a long shot. The OKA is only a bit bigger than the cruiser overall but has a heap better GVM. It would be a lot more comfortable having all the extra room.

The extra size would be great. I think the bigger wheels and and extra weight would really soak up the pot holes on those outback roads.
Are they still running the Dana 70? up front and a Dana 80 in the rear?

Some others have good reports about the Isuzu and Canter 4wd trucks and many of them are crew cabs;)
They have aesthetically nicer cab interiors

The only mention I can find of the axles in the new model is in the article in "Overlander" magazine of Susi & Ruedi's OKA where they mention that the "axles are awesome compared with Dana predecessors".

I reckon the only thing that would make the OKA any better was if it had portals:cool:

I build truck bodies for Ergon Energy and I get to drive Isuzu NPS 300 4x4 trucks a fair bit. IMHO they are rougher to drive than a Series Land Rover:rolleyes:. The 2wd Hino Dutro trucks are a much more refined truck and have a far better layout, especially in the cab. They are much smoother to drive than the Isuzus. I haven't driven a Hino 4wd truck yet but think they would be better than the Izuzu.

I reckon the OKA would still be a better choice though just for the fact it is purpose built for this type of thing rather than just a normal truck with an extra axle under it.

I ran into a guy on a HP2 and a Kawasaki KLR in Las Animas a few years ago was that you?

I like my new FJ. I am planning to set it up for long haul expeditions. It's a lot larger inside than my old FJ, better 4 wheel drive system, and more comfortable.

doood..

talk about small world, that was me and my buddy stew. we were
on our way back to Bay of LA from San Francisquito and just turned
off towards the bay to kill some time. i know this will sound kind of
gay (not that there is anything wrong with that) but your rig out on
that beach was a big inspiration for building my own rig for Baja...

As much as I like the rig that started the thread, I suppose this would have to be my favorite at the moment. I just got back from three weeks in Alaska with ten days of that being way offroad.

That's a Toyota Trails cover right there...

Nice ass. :flipoff2:

Toyota Truck

When I first considered getting my first Toyota truck, I happened to find this website when researching Tacomas.

They have done an excellent job of setting this truck up for expedition travel. They have written some killer reviews too on all the equipment put into the vehicle. Enjoy!!
