First picture is of my 1965 FJ45. The next two are of 1960 FJ25s. I have two more here in town with holes and at least three more up north. All from early 1969 or earlier with the bib lights. I have one up north from a 1971 that should have the hole but would have to check.

That person must have really loved this thing bc he owned it till 1999. I'd imagine after 28 years, something becomes part of the family..

Nope not me. I bought my first cruiser in 1974. A used 1968 FJ40. That I still own:bounce:

Living in the Past, for some reason that is really inspiring that you would hold on to your 40 for all these years.

My rod setup is the same...kind of a d-bracket 9 inches from the front of the hood, directly in the center. But guess what? I've got the hole in the apron, too! I wonder why the PO used the bracket over therm. housing idea? I think I may have a short rod? :doh: :o I measured it and it was around 27 inches.

Heres a pic of my original hole. Also, I took some pics of the goofy alum. channel rear bumper.

yes I'd have to agree that it was an unusually good deal

and I think that the economy puts people more in the mind of being cautious about spending and are more likely to bid what they can afford rather than what it is worth traditionally
 
went and checked out his 40 friday afternoon, the photos dont do it justice, its a really nice rig, drove really smooth with the emu springs. there was no rust on the body and the frame looked great. not sure if he posted it or not but he still has the stock doors and wheels and the tires on it are basically brand new (33/10.5)

kylan, if you want me to post up the pictures i took let me know. i still haven't heard back from my friend but if i do ill let you know
 
Funny how a year ago the thoughts would be about 2000 higher..... Kind of scary since I have way more than 3500 in mine....... There is no doubt that you have a nice cruiser there...... You might sit on it for a while if your pocket allows.... Or in another year it might be a 1500-2000 dollar cruiser at this rate.
FYI I have a cherokee that when I purchased it a year ago I had to arm wrestle a croud for it and had seriously three people lined up outside if I didnt buy it because I had a small down on it. (It was a 5 speed which made it more rare) I have it for sale right now and can not seem to give it away.... I vote for you to put it for sale with a high price and plan on sitting on it for a while....
I hope it sells!
 
Thanks for the remarks, everybody. I'll list hit high on CL this week, and if there's no action, I'll just keep her in the barn for a while.

You guys may be getting hit harder on your prices in your neck of the woods. Houston still has some well off oil boys who don't hesitate to drop $20k in their hunting rigs. I'd personally like to see this go to another Cruiser-lover....but anyway, we'll see this week. Houston may be getting soft, too.

Garrett, thanks for all of your time and kind words. You don't need to post the pictures, just show them to your buddies. ;)

Could someone explain how this can be a 3.5K - 4K rig. You can't even buy a replacement tub for that. Then they are not perfectly correct. You could pay 6k for this use the tub then sell the rest off the rest. You would be far ahead of buying a replacement tub. Put it back in the barn for now.

x2. i think between how clean the tub was, the paint job was in good condition, how well it ran, has new tires, hard and soft doors, a basically brand new 8274 on the front i think $7500-$8500 is possible in our area if he can find the right buyer.

technically its worth whatever you can get someone to pay. Whether or not I think it is worth that or not is kinda irrelevant. I paid 4500 for my rust bucket... that I later added a 2k tub bed to. So buy your logic it is worth more than 7k

To me cruisers are like everything else out.. the right person on the right day and you will get a good price. As a buyer I believe you can get a truck similiar for somewhere like 3500-4k in this market... just taking patience and hard bargining. I will admit that is the low price.
 
I agree it's a hard market right now. People who are forced to sell right now for need of cash are the losers. While people buying right are the winners. Not just in the ctuiser market. Now is not the time to sell if you can afford not to. I would like to sell off a few of my project cruisers but will wait until the economy gets better. Nobody should be buying toys nows unless they can really afford it. Keeping the family housed and feed should always come first:cheers:
 
The round hole in the front bib places the entire hood too low. I think I saw a photo on a friends phone that showed a simple bracket attached to the valve cover, front most bolt. Anyone seen that? Seems to make sense. I slide mine just in front of the valve cover . Tight fit but pretty stable spot.
