I will get some more photos posted. That is a downside of being in Bolivia, no powder coating or good boxliner material to be had. Just used a textured rust paint. So it will probably need a refinishing after a couple years of use.

Excellent fab skills, that turned out really nice. I should probably take off my factory "rust rack" since I live in the rust belt.

BTW, I love the electric fence and brick walls/iron gate in the background. It reminds me of Peru and makes me want to go back. I've spent several months in several Peruvian cities and I saw a few 40, 80 and 100 series cruisers down there. I've always wanted to buy a house down there, but with the prices of airfare going the way they are, I don't know if I ever will. My dream was to turn an 80 series into a expedition vehicle for medical missions in the remote parts of the Amazon using Iquitos, PE as a base.

What city in Bolivia do you live in?

very nice rack! Did you make the mounts to the gutters as well? Hows the wind noise?

For those thinking of removing the Rack, use a impact to get the screws out, or possibly drill the heads and grind off what left. My inserts were corroded pretty badly but the electric impact worked like a champ saving some aggravation. Sealed holes with silicone for the time being and planning on welding them with everything else including the hatch badges since they are rusting now... (Think of anything that goes through the bodywork as potential spots of rust, 95% of the time it's probly starting.

FYI Silicone is a rust promoter in steel.

Question and slight hi-jack.

What type of sealant should be used on the bolts to seal on the holes? Something that won't promote rust.

I am going the rosette washer, stainless bolt route and want to make sure I use the correct sealant. I was thinking that the same sealant used for the wind shield would work. Where would I pick something like that up?

TIA

Could you use bondo or bed liner?

I desperately need to know what type of mounting brackets you used. Beautiful rack man!
