Quick question for the group - would this factory winch and bumper assembly off a 1989 BJ70 have value to someone?
Thanks

I am no winch value expert but I am curious too. Is it PTO or Electric?

Hopefully someone will chime in with an answer. Mine is electric.

That's pretty sweet, NHS!

Just today I bought a 1991 diesel Model 75 that looks like it would take it--but I have to check on the PTO as there is no winch on there now:

The truck currently is here in Dubai, but it will be coming home to Virginia in the coming months (it takes a couple by ship and I want to do some work on it here first). If I can do the PTO thing I'm definitely interested and it would be very convenient given how close you are in Maryland! (I have little idea of the FMV for a PTO version--but I'd like to get one). I've been paying 1200 AED here for a complete Asin (Toyota OEM) electric winch and another few hundred for the factory controller--although they are rare as hens teeth. That's on the order of a few hundred dollars from the salvage yard here for the complete setup. Do you want to part with the bull bar as well? I could also swap you with the factor bumper setup on mine if that is of interest.

Well its not mine..yet..still working out the negotiations with the boss. I like it except for the bumper assembly. Would prefer the standard trim one that sits much closer to the body. If I end up getting it I'll let you know.

Good luck with your import!

The front porch bumpers aren't for everyone but they do grow on you after awhile. Keep the front bumper on it for awhile to make sure you want it or not. You may be surprised and like it.

What he said. I first found it quite ugly. Gradually I'm getting used to it. Here's my other 75 (not to show off, but I'm kinda proud of the fact I managed to find it in Oman and then export it to the UAE--major, major effort involved, mostly because I was totally ignorant of the process):

Those are the new Dubai plates I just got from the local DMV on Thursday. Its in pretty good shape but the interior needs complete refresh, which is ok because my intent is to use this in Dubai as a camper for the desert. I'm not planning to keep it stock at all.

BTW, I used to think that my truck was missing the hook on the left side of the bumper but every one of the 7X's I see with the big front bumper seems to have only one hook.

Thats awesome! I would be doing the exact same thing if I lived there. I briefly entertained the idea of importing a BJ70 that I saw in Pakistan. They call it a LC RKR. Its RHD so I thought it would make more sense to simply purchase an already imported JDM model.

Good idea on the porch bumper, leave it and see if it grows on you.

If it’s any measure I just purchased and installed a complete pto winch setup for $300 Canadian from a mud member. It needed some restoration but is a good unit, seemed like it was never used.

Thats good to know. The seller said I could take the winch/bumper off and sell it separately for $2-3k which sounded absurd.

Yeah, that doesn’t sound realistic. I bet you could get $1000 usd though, a complete set doesn’t come along often and some people really want one.

Can the front part of the porch bumper be used without the platform part of the porch? If used with the standard bumper mounting brackets? Of course winch would be removed.
