I bought a 2F, 4sp, and transfer case to replace the F in my 74 FJ40. Can I pull the old and put in the new as a unit? It looks like there is plenty of room. I searched previous threads and couldn’t find an answer.

Depending on the year of the 2F: '75-'80 2F/H42 yes, drop it right in. '81-'87 2F, not as easy but doable. You'll need to fabricate a transmission mount.

Even easier if you've got the drive shafts from a 40 with the 2F/H42.

Yes, as noted above, depending. You'll want the front 2F motor mounts (bolt holes are bigger), there may be interference between the carb and brake master, depending...

When my 2F died we put a 155F in its place because it was free and available, and everything bolted up. I used my 4-speed, 2F bell housing, flywheel and clutch. 2F Motor mounts worked and I went about my day. That all stayed until I pulled them to be replaced by the R2.8, H55F and split transfer case.

R2.8.... that's my fever dream for my 43 one day. If I can ever stop shoveling money into it to fix a shoddy resto, that is.

How do you like that setup? I haven't looked at your threads yet, but you must have a build thread for it.

I like the adapter kit I got from Overland Cruisers in Montana and make bolting up to the H55F with the 2F bellhousing a breezes.

I don't have it running yet but will work on the 3" exhaust once the V-clamp rings are welded to the flex section that will attach to the turbo down pipe. Once that is in place I can see where to cut the upper end of the elbow then get the ring welded to it and run the exhaust. The 3" band clamps should be delivered on Monday.
