My 65 FJ40 has had the motor swapped at some point and a four speed box attached to it from a 55 series. This poses the question to me as to which F motor it is. I am looking for a new carburettor as it currently has something of a Holden (GM) Torana attached to it and don't want to be getting anything that is slightly off..

The engine number is F226699

Which F Motor would have come with it orignally?
Which F Motor is in it now?

Pics below - any help will be appreciated.

Cheers Rob

Re F engine.

Hi Rob, Very early f you have their. It even has the correct head and manfoulds on it. The carbie that goes on that engine is a big window very simler to a fj25 one. The big window and that engine and head ran up to engine no 243297. By my parts catalog i think this engine set up ran until 1965. It could be oringal, except for carby and oil filter. Hope this helps. Cheers Ian.

In in the US that engine F135 ran from mid 1960 to the end of the 67 model year. The last few years didn't the big site glass carb. Not sure if the very early FJ55 got that motor but I doubt it. It probably would have been a F145 in the early FJ55. That doesn't mean the F135 didn't ended earlier in OZ. I know we didn't get a automatic transmission in a cruiser here until the 88 Model FJ62. But I know other markets got a Auto transmission earlier in the 6X series.:meh:

The casting mark says your engine was built in 1966, April 27. It is an F135.

Dave, how do you read the casting number? Is it backwards? and what is the 5 below the main number?

Thanks for the help.

Cheers Dobster

Don't know about the 5, but the date is always the year within the decade (64 would be a 4), month, then day...

So, mine was cast September 15, 1964.

if that is the number on the right side of the block, just behind the distributor, that's not the number that IDave is referring to.

check out the number just in front of your front freeze plug on the left side of your block, let us know if that makes more sense? :meh:

the number on the left side I believe is the production run number.

Hi you were right I had the number that was further back on LHS the number ineed was hidden by generator 1226. Cheers Fred
