I remember when I was young and had 4x4's. None of my friends had winches, they were far too expensive. We used to pull each other out with chains! *gasp*! Hard to believe we did that, chains are absurdly violent.

It sounds like that tow company is full of $hit and is attempting to commit insurance fraud. If that's the case hopefully there business goes under.
