Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words. And yeah, it is a bathroom/shower enclosure. I use the PETT toilette system, it works great along with a solar shower which works well in the warmer months. I want to setup a water/heat exchanger off of the truck though in my next rig. I've had this truck 9 years now and am considering moving on to a new project. The next truck is going to be dialed in a bit more since its going to be used on a 12+month trip. :D

WHOA Kristian! How did I miss this?? I was hoping that you'd make it to the H55 swap. Any hints on what the new rig will be?

A 60 series? :grinpimp:

Although those are some nice ideas on the rigs in here.

If I remember correctly I think he already had a red 60, but I could be mistaken him for someone else.

Well, I honestly was considering totally rebuilding my 80 from the ground up but Andre (dieselcruiserhead) has put a better plan into my head for the trip. This is all still just in the early planning stages but the basic premise would be 60 series with something like a 1HZ swap and setup to support 3 people, 2 of them on motos for a trip that will last over a year. I am putting together a budget this month to try and get some hard numbers of what it will take to create it and honestly the cocept could evolve alot too, so as of right now it is still a moving target! ha ha And yeah, I did have an '82 FJ60 for a number of years that I really loved. I'd be a pretty happy guy back behind the wheel of a 60 series for sure!

Very cool! I'll be looking for the build up thread here and on ExPo (no pressure )

Question, latinoguy, with the ladder on the rear door, any problems?

No problems at all, but then again, I am only 150 pounds, but the ladder feels solid on the rear door and I don't think it is causing any significant stress on the hinges which the rear door is fastened to the body.

latinoguy, I'm looking to add some limb risers. What exactly did you use? Looks nice! Do they slide around at all on the bar? Thanks!

The cable I sourced thru Wild Yoats Toyota
wildyoats is a member here on mud also. The cable is industrial quality coated cable, The rest are turn buckles and cable clamps, easy. The cables stay nicely on the Arb bumper, you do have to loosen the cables to open up the hood....minor inconvenience.

I had two major sources of inspiration in the building of my rig: First, my inner cheap-ass. I've got little to spend, and truth be told, I can't stand those over-built, over-equipped nancy-mobiles. You love your $650 fridge. Great. Did I mention my five-day cooler was on sale for $16.00 at Ralph's grocery store? The other concern that my inner cheap-ass has is "What happens when things break?" If you have complicated, expensive stuff, it will eventually break, need repairing or replacing, and since you're used to the convenience of all that stuff, you'll just have to go out and spend more money on more stuff. My inner cheap-ass has broken that cycle. When I see what little he is capable of living comfortably with, I am in awe!

My second source of inspiration is Tom Sheppard. While he may indulge in some equipment I would never need, he is after all driving around the Sahara for weeks on his own. And just look atis rig! Stripped down, no roof rack, bins organized and strapped to the floor. The guy doesn't use a tent or even have A/C!

Sharam

You are so right. I spent 8 years working in Africa taking people on expeditions. It is nice to have a few luxuries but really, to be true to the objective, you just have to leave all the 'stuff' behind. You want to reach your destination, you want to be able to get yourself fixed when you break down, you wan to get unstuck when you get stuck. Food - water - enough for three days. You need a piece of flat ground to sleep on - preferably longer than you are and wide enough to roll over. :steer:

latinoguy,

Glad to see that the ladder is still holding up!

One of my favorite color on the 80 as well (along with the desert sage).

Thanks again!!

A lot of great rigs here giving me great ideas.

James (latinoguy) - what mapping software are you using on your laptop and what kind of mounting system are you using?
