Hi Folks

Just wondering if anyone has any recomendations for a place in the Valley, or Vancouver to get 3" exhaust piping done? I want to add more kick to my 13-BT. I've already spoken with ATEB, thier priced a bit rich for my blood.........any suggestions would be appreciated.

thank you

Alan

Vancouver Brake and Wheel in Port Moody (by EBI) did mine which is 2 1/2" and he did a great job! Since mine was full custom and half the length as well as I told him I wanted it as high as possible he managed to keep everything above the frame and the welds were clean. I remember him telling me that they can do 3" as well.

Get a price on both 2 1/2" and 3". Unless the price is reasonably close it's probably not worth it. Remember, it's not a huge engine nor is it high revving. I had mine done at Midas in Surrey. They did a good job on the '60 and a crappy job on the '55 a year or two later.

I read on here someone posted(could have been crushers) that they tried 3 inch once and the worst part of it was it flooded with water on a river crossing, and the 2.5 was border line in clearing the exhaust of water. Once you go too big the pressure just isn't there to keep it clear.

Fantom, can you describe or take pictures of your modified exhaust? I have to get an exhaust installed this month on my BJ60 and The old route is completely removed including hangars, so I need to have a fully custom job.

So here it is, in order, from the manifold down, the 2 90 turns, then the glass pack "muffler" under the passanger's door. The only thing I would change about this is having an adapter between the flange that bolts to the manifold and the exaust that would expand it from the 1 7/8" that it is to 2 1/2" or more. This would make it easier to get at the bolts. As it sits right now it is a bit of a pain to fit a socket on them.

The last one is the end of it in front of the rear passanger tire. He ended up doing a little bend up and then down, I noticed that it works pretty good to keep the water out. The entire thing is about 1/2" above the frame and still has enough room between the body to not touch or heat anything up.

Very Nice Mat!!

I spoke with Ciaren Wilson yesterday........He suggested 2.5" for my needs........I took a drive to Chilliwack...at the suggestion of a fellow cruiserhead I made an appointment with Vic's Exhaust......booked for next Monday.

2.5" stainless steel, no muffler, stainless tip, tucked up nicely......I hope I get some improved performance out of this one. Not asking for anything major....just some more Zip to the 13-BT.

Unlike gasoline engines, the performance increase on diesels is low. It will sound better, but you are likely not going to notice much. I did the exhaust and threw in a K&N filter and with the two I noticed a minor change. Let me know what the Stainless is going to run.

I got my exhaust done yesterday. I opted for 2.5" stainless steel, flexpipe, chrome tip, no muffler. Here are the results in case anyone was interested:

-Noticed a slight increase in power
-The engine doesn't sound stressed when i'm cruising past 100km/h or passing 3000rpm
-smoother acceleration and deceleration, almost eliminated choppiness when you prematurely up gear.
-There is a difference in sound.....its a deep throated growl as oppossed to a Banshee in need of some cough syrup.
-EXCELLENT on the freeway, more quicker response to the pedal.
-Apparently it sounds "awesome"
-I had the system tucked up as much as possible.....I'll have my cruiser guy look at it and assess how good the job was later next week. From where i sit....its an excellent mod.

I've read on here that a K&N filter can give some more kick to this engine..........can i grab one from canadian tire? Lordco?

I pulled mine after reading the threads in the diesel section and then pulled it out to see tiny pinholes when shining a light through it.:eek::eek: When I put it on I was very happy, as it seemed the engine was breathing better. Now I know why.

I recommend you deep six the idea of a K&N. I am still eventually going for increased air flow but it will mean a bigger paper filter and air box. Maybe one from a power stroke or dodge cummins? However, there is more to airflow than just the filter. If you have a turbo kit and it is turned up, you also need an air intake pre turbo that can flow the air required.

For the landcruisers there is only one that fits in the air box, I will have to do some digging around for a part number but I recall it listed as a 197# landcruiser - the air box sizes haven't changed in a while. I've been running mine for a long time and have not had any issues with crap getting through it. I've been to the point where the outside of it was almost all covered with crap but the inside was still clean. Do not go to Canadian Tire to buy parts, go to parts stores, except Lordco - read my other thread on that fun experience.

Thanks Mat for the pictures!

K&N excellent for the city, freeway etc. Keep it clean and use the products they sell to do so.

Keep a paper filter for the offroad and driving on gravel.

The reason I say so is based on all those tests that were posted in the diesel section.

But I would have no issues using a K&N in Vancouver. You guys barely have dust. Calgary I would probably stick to paper :)

K&N $68
let me know

You should see the engine bay of my wife's car just from driving back and forth from Abby to Langley on the freeway. It is full of dusts and sand even though I wash it down regularly.

Time for someone using a K&N to do a Bob The Oil Guy type analysis: Air Filtration Test Testing was done on paved roads in the Pacific North West. US roads tend to be cleaner than our's. The Highway down to SEATAC was spotless yesterday - even around the construction past Everett. Highway 1 in the valley here always seems to be dirty and dusty.
