A lot of times when you do and oil change with filter you are going to get some kind of rattle type noise. 90% of the time this is caused by dry starting when you changed the filter. even if you do your best to put oil in the filter before you install the new one you are going to to dry start the pump which will rattle as you called it.

yes, that may be true, but most folks on this website discuss the 'startup rattle' in terms of an ongoing condition, not a one-time post-oil change phenomena.

ELW2: interesting that the K&N may have done it for you, might try one next time around.
 
When is the last time you changed your PCV valve?
