All the rave here in Oz are CouplerTec electronic rust protection systems. They're touted as the panacea solution for all kinds of harsh environment use for mining, off-road, etc. vehicles.

They are akin to boat anti-fouling systems but are only applicable to non-submerged applications (ie. not boats).

I've not come across anyone who actually uses such a system but if you believe the advertising they're common as mud (apparently).

Is there such a thing in the USA/Canada that's similar? It is actually good and what are the trade-off's?

I would really like to read about the science (fiction) behind this sort of product :)

cheers,
george.

my assumption is Cathodic Protection much like what is used for buried propane tanks from corrosion.
