my new toy...
I have the usual collection of battery chargers, but they are only half smart or plain dumb. This one is far better.
Great fun for those lonely winter eves alone in your cabin (if you have power)... Nothing like a digital display for the techheads among us.
You can keep track of the storage capacity of your AAs, see how they improve (or not) with time with real numbers, refresh them automatically and generally have a grand time with the settings. OK, so maybe I should get a life but eh...

Plus it's actually useful and works well. Low charging current is good for battery life. Separate control for each channel. And already restored several oldish AAs from oblivion.

Another tidbit of quasi-useful info after a bunch of searching: watch out when you buy a smart universal charger with a 9V output, the latter is usually dumb, regardless of the rest. Must be cuz the circuits are completely different. Or cuz they can get away with it.
Also, watch those "9v" LiIons, they can't take more than 8.4V apparently. So needs a special charger.

oh, yes, here it is:

more like $55 on amazon (curse their evil tax deal with the PRK...!)
never mind the chintzy accessories, they are basically for free if you do comparison shopping, so there...

It's a new electronic world out there, folks...! :)

damn .. I kinda hate this .. you can not keep the new " toys " rhythm and I wonder how much we need .?

nah, it's all for good...

best part of the gizmo so far is I can measure the storage capacity of my batteries. This test includes a full charge and full discharge. I then do the same test again and again and I can see the storage cap of the battery increase with every round. Had some 850mAh batteries that were down to 200 unbeknowst to me, and I got them back to 700 already after 2 or 3 rounds. I think thanks to the very slow charging that you can set -unlike the charger I was using previously. (This can all be done automatically, with the charger doing discharges repeatedly until the capacity is no longer increasing.) The trickle mode is also very slow, only 15mA or so, also good.

Needless to say I'd rather have good batteries in my GPS when I'm hiking in the desert than flaky ones, so all that is good to know.

Dang, didn't realize I had so many AAs and AAAs around...
