Electrical short cured, Pin_Head is the MAN

OK guys, Pin_Head nailed it. turns out, the black wire with the yellow stripe that goes to the insulator above the coil actually was touching the metal bracket that supports it. That said, has anyone else had this problem, know of a fix, maybe a little piece of rubber between the bracket and mount? Now though, the motor still drags when I try to start it> thought the new starter would fix that. Is it still related to ground? other connections, Fuel,? Thanks again

No I didn't. Based on your description, I thought it was the switch. That was because you said that the wire smoked with the key in the Acc position. If it was the coil wire, it should have smoked in the Ign position and not Acc.

Glad it worked out anyway! Just shows you how hard it is to diagnose something over the internet.

For the starter, try cleaning all the cable connections that go to the battery.
