Trail: El Dorado Canyon

Description: This is a scenic fun trail that runs the canyons the East of Dayton. There are a lot of rock formations, mining, and trees along a creek that make this an interesting trail. Sure to be new with all the floods that went thru there this year.

Date: Saturday, 4/1/2017

Meeting Time:Leave time 9:00
Meeting Location: The parking lot of Sinclair gas station and store in Dayton corner of Hwy 50 and bridge by the first light in Dayton coming from Carson City.

Trail Difficulty: Some unknowns. Mostly 2 on the road, 3 in the creek; hopefully no mud

Additional Equipment needed: Lunch, probably at the cave. Look for gold in this area.

Duration of Run: About 4-5 hrs depending on the trail conditions (how muddy it is)

Ha Greg. We really screwed the pooch on that run. I wish you guys would have come with Will and I. It was refreshing to finally reach our destination and the way out was easy and closer. Next time it will be better. We can do this run in 2 or three hours if you like. It will be no more that 5hrs. You have my word on that.

This trail is stocker friendly if you stay on the road. There may be a few spots that a stock vehicle will need a spot. Mud will complicate things but we will avoid it for a carefree day of wheeling.

If we turn around where we normally do... the mud shouldn't be too bad. Expect a few mild water crossings... some buck brush... and some off camber butt puckering. But doable in stock rigs for sure. We've had various stock FJs up there.

If we try to go up and out to Sunrise Pass/Brunswick Canyon roads, we can expect a muddy hill climb.

Ok I am out... We met with the contractor this weekend for the new salon, ISTH has got haywire at the old salon so the girls HAVE TO BE OUT by the 1st. Did demo all weekend long at the new salon and gutted the place and contractor starts tomorrow. So unfortunately no run for me this time around. Any thoughts on doing the Petroglyphs again? Or does someone have GPS map from the Lousetown Rd. side they could share?

Also, Mark (@Krusty Krab) were you at The Fox Brewpub on Saturday night?

No not at the Brewpud. Maybe my stuntman look alike was out partying. Sorry you will miss the run. Yes Bronco canyon and the Petroglyphs are probably going to get done this year. Hope you get the Salon working again. And what is ISTH?

Ok I thought I saw your 40 sitting in the parking lot behind it while we were demoing... We are opening a new salon so time for all kinds of renovations to the old one that was there.

Hope everyone is getting ready for the run this saturday. Hoping I am not the only one going.
Just replaced the oil pan gasket. What a pain. Been putting it off for weeks. Now, fingers crossed to see if that was really where the leak was occurring? You never know with the f(turd)motor. Weather should be really nice in the high 60s.

Snow shoeing is fun and we certainly have enough snow for it. Was up skiing last weekend at D. Peak and there was a ISHT load of it, actually looking down on the run map sign at the top of Lakeview lift. Sorry you can't make it.

I was glad you could make it or I would have just gone home and missed a great day of wheeling and trail finding/bushwacking. Thanks for posting the pictures. I wasn't surprised to find the trail, or lack of trail, but was surprised at how well you wheeled your "new" Cruiser. Some of the stuff we went thru and over was perfect.I think if we had had a saw and gone a little further where the canyon opens up that we would have found the trail. Anyway it was a good time. Thanks for showing.

Notice in the top picture where the trail used to be. It looked like people had traveled around a bit till the may have made it thru to the end. A saw and a shovel, and some stones and this trail is doable again. Although who knows what we would have found further up. After some fun wheeling we only made it in about a half a mile.

Wow. The power of water is quite a thing. That 80 looks right at home. Looks like a worthy 'break in'.

Sorry we could not make it. With the new baby we have been sticking to solo runs so we can stop to tank her up on her schedule.

Im pretty sure breaks can be arranged to keep momma and baby happy. We waited till ours were a year old, then we used a neck pillow to support their heads.
