Which part? The valve, the cooler, ...?

The reason you didn't find anything about rebuilding EGR valves is that they are not rebuildable in the generally understood meaning of the term. They can't be disassembled and you can't replace individual parts of the valve assembly.

You can however, clean them if they are filled with carbon and stuck open. One way is to scrub it out with wire brushes and scrapers. The other way is to dip the valve part in carb dip overnight to dissolve and loosen the carbon so it is easier to remove. Don't dip the top part with the vacuum actuator. Lube the actuator rod with teflon lube.

There is probably more info on them in the FJ60 section than here.

Sorry--the valve.

Pin_Head...thanks for the help via PMs. I really want to take it out and do exactly what you are talking about. Is the actuator rod in the lower part of the body of the EGR?

I don't think that you will notice any difference in running with the EGR shut or blocked off, but it might not pass an emissions test if they require one in your location. EZ way is to just put a BB in the vacuum line and make sure the valve is shut.

[I think that] my EGR gets stuck when the engine is hot sometimes and I think it is contributing to a rough idle when hot. I'd like to somehow bypass it to make sure that it isn't something else, but maybe it's just easier to remove it and lube it.
