I have an 84 4runner with a 22r. I have been offered a 2wd 94 toyota pick up with a 22re for cheap. My question is, can I swap the motor from the 2wd into my 4runner with no problems? The 2wd only has 150k miles and runs great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There will be a lot of wiring differences, but since you have the entire harness that should solve most of that. Biggest issue is you will need to swap the pan and oil pickup tube from your old engine to the newer one. Sump needs to be in the back on the 4WD truck.

Thanks KLF. Is there any wiring differences regarding the 2wd/4wd? Also, is there any transmission concerns?

The oil pan and pick up was good info. I hadnt thought about that but it makes sense.

Assuming both trucks are manual trans, then as far as I know you the problems that you *might* have will be minimal. There are only 2 connections on your old trans: Reverse and 4WD. It depends if the tranny wiring is bundled with the engine harness, I don't think it was in the '84.

That should be an easy swap if you have the whole truck. You'll need to just take the whole engine/ecu/harness and swap them into your truck. Like KLF said the additional stuff for the 4WD should be negligible.

is the 2wd pickup wrecked? it's a shame to kill a running 94 2wd truck for the motor. my 92 2wd pickup is a great little runabout. if it is in good shape i would keep it the way it is and look for a different transplant. IMO the 22re is most at home in the lighter 2wd trucks. The more toyota trucks the merrier. now you'll have a pickup to bring home the motor you find later.

Thanks for the info. Yes, the 2wd is wrecked and needs a new clutch. Guy is not asking very much for it which is why I'm thinking about doing the swap.

Well, plans have changed. I found a 22r with less miles and have bought it. Ill be swapping it into the 4runner this weekend.

Thanks for all the help. Im sure I'll be back on here during the swap for some help.
