I need to add "engine bay" and "rock garden" lights to my 100. Are the pieces robust enough for under hood and frame mounting.

Probably not, well maybe not however the difference vs. the OEM stuff is literally night and day.

I just went out to check now that it's dark, and Wow!. It's a difference on a scale of 1 to 10.... it's a 10.

I like this mod, but I'm wondering what happens when you go out camping and are swarmed by moths, beetles and other flying insects that love bright white lights? Of course you can turn the interior lights off, but if you want to see something inside you will need a torch anyway.

The original pale yellow light doesn't seem to attract much insect life. Perhaps this mod with an extra switch to turn off the LEDs would be the answer.

:D That's all very well, but I was once in the middle of the Simpson Desert in central Australia, camped late and had to prepare a feed using lights, on the tailgate. I was swarmed by thousands of little (1/4") beetles, (not to mention the mozzies and a few hundred moths) and they got into everything I opened. Little kamakzi bastards just dropped in and then walked around everywhere. Even moving the light fifteen feet from the truck didn't attract the little buggers away.

It took me two weeks to get the last of them out of my food and utensil boxes! I guess I could have just chewed them up with whatever else I was eating.

PS: I am assuming Cowboy Up! is like Man Up, and not a Brokeback Mountain version. :p

Bugs and insects ain't no joke in Oz!

I ordered up one of these lights, is removing the interior trim hard? I know it says a 10 minute install but I have almost no technical know how

Nice! I've always been frustrated at the lack of light back there. Thanks for the post and pictures!

1. Remove top plastic trim piece - it pulls straight out
2. Pull the rear dome light housing to expose the wiring
3. Run two strands of some purchased wire from the rear to the opening where the dome light was removed - I used a straightened wire coat hanger for this
4. Splice this wire into the dome light wiring - I used those inline splice things
5. Attach other end of wires to the wires on the purchased LED light bar - I used butt connectors
6 Put dome light and plastic trim piece back
7. The LED light stays in place, for a while, snagged to the fabric ceiling, but eventually falls, dangling by the wire - so I put some velcro pieces (the hook part) on the back of the LED light bar and it attaches securely to the fabric ceiling

That's a cool mod, thanks for posting.

Does anyone know if it's possible just to get a brighter bulb for the stock dome light?

Ok, I'm answering my own questions. Here's the order page for brighter LED lights that go into the 100 series stock dome.

White LED lighting

Sorry to sideline the thread.

I'm seeing another thread going talking about this very thing:

Did that too, but that LED light bar in the rear is the "bomb"!

I remember when I first owned my 2000 and was bowhunting, always driving into dark woods well before daylight. As I got ready at the rear of the truck, I cursed every morning, not being able to see crap - well these LEDs (bar and dome lights) would have made all the difference.

Well, maybe they are so bright, their light would have scared deer and bear from miles away!

have you had any issues with the light bar? Or is it flawless?

Flawless to date.

For approx $10 with free shipping from Hong Kong, and despite it has fallen from it's ceiling perch numerous times before I secured it with velcro, it has been fault free.

I think I might order another light bar for the front as well, beats paying $30 for the bulbs lol but I dont know where to mount the light bar if it was in the front

^ I would have to look, but you could tap into the front dome and maybe mount in front of the headliner, right as it meets the windshield?

I think that wiring in the front would be easier access since the the dome light is closer to the edge of the headliner

just do it already. sheesh...

yes the front would be easier (to access and wire up), but you still have to remove the rear trim + door drim, a pillar trim, run under carpet and up the rear wall of the 100. Why not wire the LED into the cargo dome? Seems simpler

I cant do it cos the light bar didnt arrive yet, and I think you were confused about my idea lol I meant having an LED light bar mounted on the front and the rear, not wiring one in the front and mounting in the rear, too much work lol
