Does anyone have picture or diagram of early 55 window regulator installed. A shot of the inside of the door with the window down would be awesome. I'm switching from late style to early style doors, and the doors I bought are not assembled. Big thanks to CarmMontana for a awesome score though!

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

no one?

Wish I could help but all four of my doors are ripped apart for painting right now. Best I could manage would be a pic of a nice pile of parts and I doubt that would help. I can't put my hands on my manual right now but doesn't the FSM have a nice break down of the doors in it?

Hey AJ

Not sure if this will help much but this is what I used to better understand the way these things install. This is the setup with the wing window but its just not shown in picture.

I just looked at the setup more closely and I was mistaken. This isn't the early regulator setup. It may help a bit but its the newer regulator in the door. Sorry bud.

I can take pics for you on wed morning, my pig is a 69. Let me know.

Please do, pictures of the regulators rolled down would be the most helpful. I think I kinda got them figured out from just fiddling with them but the pics would be awesome.

thanks,

Aj

No worries that diagrams is exactly what I need, just for the earlier style. the doors I have now have this set up. the early style is a single arm regulator instead of the later scissor style

bump. pics would be awesome.

Older post, but I looked at it when trying to figure out my current situation. Hope this pic helps the next guy out.

On the left is the 74 and up, non vent window door, scissor style window regulator.
In the center is the rear window regulator.
On the right is the early style, vent window door, single arm window regulator. Notice very similar to the rear window, but a longer connecting arm.

You might not want to switch back to earlier ones.
There is a difference in the splines that the window crank slides onto. Earlier ones have a shallow depth while the later ones have a deeper slpine. If you know what I mean. Basically the ones I had were narrow and would rip out the cranks, while the older ones held more torque.
Does that make sense?

if the connecting arm is the only diff betwixt the rear and an early front, then it seems a pretty straight forward fix- I have a pair of rear regs I do not need...I also have a mid vent window front drivers reg I do not need...prolly a 73/74 vintage, if that helps anyone...

So, potentially disconnect/reattach the arm to the reg gear to get a "toothier" crank spindle?

So, help me understand this, you're saying there is a difference of gear tooth depth on the crank, which means a difference to the crank handles? I thought you could mix or match the handles.

The only difference that I have seen is in the depth of the spline. The window cranks are the same. In the older the depth of the ring of splines is roughly 1/8" while the newer is roughly 1/2". This makes it so it has more meat and has, since I changed mine out, negated me having to get new cranks because of strip out. Unfortunately my windows tank some torque to roll up and down :(

I just went through this. My 77 has the deeper splines. I bought a replacement crank for the passenger front. We also have a 71 rig and I took all the old chrome cranks off of it, thinking I could use them for my build. I even paid to have them re-chromed. They only fit on the replacement passenger crank, which I now know came off an earlier vehicle.

Oh Man, I had to run out to the shop and check mine. Sure enough I have the old style ( smaller gear ) ones. Not much you can do about it, as the newer ones are for the non vent window glass, right.
