Hello. Newbie here. Haven’t even posted intro yet.
Just picked up a 2008 TLC with 127k.
Has the factory ceiling mount tv screen.

I couldn’t find a direct answer using search fiction, so apologies if this has been discussed somewhere.

One of the must haves was a working dvd. Brought disk to the dealership to test. There were no headphones in the truck, which i didn’t mind because they are pretty cheap on Amazon. Remote was in there. Upon playing disk, the video plays on the rear screen. No sound from the speaker system. Found on the source screen where you can toggle speaker output, but that doesn’t make any difference. Figured it was trying to play through headphones. Finally got them this morning and tried again... No luck.
I did switch the source on the screen to radio and got the radio through the headphones, so seems they are getting signal.

I don’t know what else to try.

Also, not as big of a deal, but have read that when in park video should play on front monitor. Is this correct?

Thanks for help!

Can't help you with the first question, I've only used the DVD player once just to check it out, and it did play through the truck speakers, and sitting still it does play on the front dash screen.

My LX might be slightly different. But if you want to play the sound through the speakers, you have to select "DVD" at the front headunit. The rear can be a second zone itself through the headphones.

In order to play video on the front monitor, you have to set the parking brake too.

It's not most intuitive but we've gotten a hang of it.

BTW, congrats. The search works pretty well, but don't be afraid to ask questions. We're a pretty easy going group.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Ok a little more testing done. Hooked up a portable dvd to the aux video ports and sound through headphones works like a charm, but wired and wireless.
When I run dvd from the front system, I finally got video on the screen with parking brake, and very faint sound of volume goes up all the way to 35.
So my thought is...
1. the center stack was removed at some point and a cable not all the way conneced OR
2. There is a wire pinched causing a loss of signal. OR
3. The DVD unit has other issues.

The frustrating thing is that I drove 3 hours to get from a Toyota deal who had done a 110 point inspection with nothing wrong. Had no headphones, so really only tested that video showed up. Salesman wasn’t much help in figuring out and said it was probably just needing headphones. In hindsight, I should have asked him to get a set from another vehicle.
Hopefully it is something simple I can figure out. If not, hopefully the dealer would try to help in some small way.
Holding my breath...

It's possible the previous owner installed an aftermarket Bluetooth or aux adapter. Try pressing DVD at the dash multiple times. Some adapters use this method to cycle between the inputs.

Tried this, but no luck. I also noticed to say that even radio stations seem to to not have consistent sound to speakers, which leads me to feel like there is a connection loose. Sounds like next step will be pulling some trim pieces :(

Well, went through the work of removing the center stack to see how the wiring looked. Got everything removed easily with the help of a few other threads on here. All the wiring seemed good and tight. Disconnected and reconnected everything to make sure. No difference.
Tried playing a standard CD and same effect- No Sound. Not sure if it’s a defective changer, or the radio unit.
I I have also noticed listeneing to the radio it seems like different speakers are cutting out and coming back on.

The last thing I wanted to do with this vehicle was chase an electrical gremlin. Any suggestions on how to handle with the dealer? It was a Toyota dealer, not just some used car lot. I negotiated the deal sight unseen based is sales guy saying that it went through their 110 point inspection and everything was in order. Said cosmetically was in good shape for a 10 yo truck- which it mostly is.

Mechanically I am happy. The truck has been in FL since new and serviced every 5k at the same dealer. Radiator and water pump have been replaced.

I just hope this is a simple fix, or the dealer assists in some way.

Are there any specific sites that I could look for a used unit? Everywhere I see is either the Android units, or it shows discontinued.

Thanks again for the responses
