hello all. New Lx570 owner here but long time cruiser head. Recently picked up an 2009 lx with 120k km on it. A bit rusty on the under carriage but otherwise seems pretty good. Decent service history and seems mechanically solid.

Here is a bad pic of day 1

We bought it from a second hand dealer which I don’t like. Got there to find a dirty exterior and nearly
Empty fuel tank. But price was right and we took the plunge.

This was met with much frustration after we washed it. Had quite a few defects in the paint. Mostly minor scuffs and scratches but frustrating none the less.

After a good exterior wash we went at it with some 3m power polishing compounds and the polisher and she came out looking spiffy

After the standard oil change and filter job I took to flushing 4l of ahc oil through the rig. About a 1l per corner and topped it all up with new. Old
Stuff actually looked ok but was glad to get it done.

Next up was to go after some wheels and tires. I happened to have a buddy riding dirt bikes in Colorado and found a set of rock warrior wheels and brought them home. Those were wrapped in some bfg ko2’s and installed.

Next was wheeling. I have to say I was really impressed with the crawl control in sand. On fully inflated tires is still extracted me from spots that I thought I was buggered.

Then was onto rear cargo area. I went after the rear seats removal. That was really easy and then started measuring for drawer set ups. Started those tonight and hope to finish in the next few days. Aim to carpet them in a colour similar to interior beige that I have.

They are a knockoff if the drifta and are simple plywood rigs with a stow away table planned.

My regular speed is more classic cruisers but modded to not really be original either. We do a few wheeling trips a year some down to the states. Here are a couple favourite rigs

Awesome. So you bought it in Canada? What was price was right? A lot of good deals but all Rusty up there esp in Manitoba and east

Awesome, great job on the detail.

What procedure did you follow to bleed the AHC system?
For the AHC I placed it in high, opened a bleed on each valve assembly under the rocker and let it bleed to a slow trickle. Then restarted the truck and let it pump back up. Did about 2 flushed on each corner and that was nearly 1L of AHC fluid.

Price was good. 35K Canukistan dollars. Its reasonably low miles 75k miles but does have some undercarriage rust. The kind that would likely scare most southern US buyers. You folks are lucky to have the pristine trucks we dream of or look to import. I looked at buying a LC200 or LX south of the border but the prices seemed very similar without considering conversion. That made this one 30% cheaper than a us equivalent.

Hope to add an ARB, roof rack of some kind, sliders, and maybe at some point build a rear bumper. I've been meaning to look at even tackling the sliders on my own but its usually easier to buy it if they make it. We'll see..

Canadian here, I found the same, I shopped around south of the border for an LC/LX for a couple years, but found it wasn't worth my while once you pay to import it etc. Mine only has 34k km on the clock an it already has a little rust, no biggie, I had it rust proofed last week and will keep up yearly treatments. The guys at the shop were saying that the LX was easy for them to do, loads of access points for them to spray into.

Oh ya, the cost to import "import cars" to Canada, the government and the down Canuck dollar really don't make it attractive right now. There's the added duty of 6.1% + $4k gas guzzler + GST/PST. $35k is a good deal ...... I thought you had bought a Canadian LX to export back to USA.

How does the math work for buying from canada and import to us?

If it's a domestic made car, no duty or gas guzzler taxes. If it is a foreign car, then it's like 2% duty. Canadians get f*Ed.

Generally not well. While there might be the currency advantage, Canadian cars are dinged in the US with regards to value. In general, most US buyers will avoid Canadian cars. You can find dealers who specialize in bringing Canadian cars into the US, they sell their cars $3 to $5k less than market value for comparable US delivered vehicles. One of the main reasons they sell at a depreciated value is due to the fact the OE warranties do not transfer if imported to US. Even if you're considering a vehicle outside of warranty, say 4 to 6 years old, I doubt you'll find it's worth the time/money after you pay to import it and deliver to your door.

Thank you for the info J

Ok. Mostly done now. I added legs to the table but they are a bit shakey, i might try and carpet the inside of the drawers but will wait and see.

I think the lower value is mostly due to fear of the unknown. I imported two Canadian vehicles down here (both imported by me when I moved to Houston) and both companies honored the warranty (GM and Subaru). As stated earlier, LX's are not as attractive to import to the US because they are made in Japan - have to pay an import duty (6% going the other way, not sure on going south) plus transportation etc. Add to it the rust found on vehicles from Manitoba and East, and you have your rationale. @arnott1t, great wheeling pics. I look forward to when our 200 LX is back in AB/Sask and we can stretch it out.
