chris this is not a real good pic but look at the space between my shifters, it is in 1st gear, 2-hi, if your shifters are closer than this than you have the the carbed trans.

I keep seeing at least one topshift transfer case will be needed and one sideshift ( i think thats what the other one is called..) How do i tell the difference between them? Anyone know a link to catagorizing these? Ive got an 84 5 speed 22r parts truck and an extra tranny and transfer case.. I will be dropping all this into my 89 5speed 3.0.

The cases are "Top shift" and "Forward Shift". Top shift the shifter goes right into the top of the transfer case, and a forward shift the shifter goes into the top of the transmission.

If you have a forward shift (Carbureted) trans, then you can use a forward shift case as the first T-case, but you need a top shift for the rear. If you have a top shift (EFI) trans then you need 2 top shift cases.

However!!!! Since this install requires that you modify and weld on the shift rails anyway, you can make a forward shift case into a top shift case if you need to. (I did...)
