I believe we are talking about the scenario where you are coasting with the truck in gear and the clutch pedal depressed.

yeah, i thought about it this weekend and realized i had misread, but was too busy wheeling to post up. no need to be a dick about it missouriman.

truck did well, though. got to test out the new sliders and front bumper.

i did manage to twist up my rear driveshaft when it got hung up on a ledge, though. I'm glad that i kept my two piece shaft and only modified the front portion. the one from my old man's taco fit perfectly in it's place.

Scratch one of the Cons if you have one of the below. No need to cut a second shifter hole any more.

Just needs a few more parts and then can you say "air shifted low range"?
I knew you could.

A couple uestions about this setup

Is there much, if any added drivetrain power loss from going from a single to a dual case setup? do many people run duals in their daily drivers?

I wouldn't know if it caused any power loss, as I did a solid axle swap, 37s, gears, lockers, and dual cases all at the same time! And mine is a daily driver. I'm sure there is some amount of power loss just due to more moving parts, fluids, etc. to move, but I couldn't guage it since I did all the other things at the same time.

I did not notice any power loss. More road noise and vibration, but no power loss. My 4runner is a daily driver.

well vibs can come from using the old u-joints.
even if they feel good. you are changing the angle big time.

if they have a lot of miles on them and still good.
the needle bearings can wear in.
then you change the range that they are moving.

they can go bad fast.
I had a drive shaft, everything nice and tight. put in a 4 inch lift and the u joint was just silver past in about 500 miles.

changed them out, the front was past the rear was broken up.
in the cap I saw the wear spots..

I am sure that is where my big time vib came from before they went to junk.

ps, not being a dick,, just giving you shait..

pss, truck looks good. a bit high.. but looks good.. hows that???

The rear case are all your other gears. Think of it this way, the rear case is like a stock transfer case. 2 Hi, 4 Hi and 4 Lo. Front case is just HI or LOW. how you mix them up is where you get all the awesome gearing choices duals offer. So with the front case in high, you have: 2WD high, 4 High, 4 Low. With front case in low you have 2WD low, 4 high low, and 4 low low. just play around with them in your driveway. Its a little confusing to think about at first but you will get it down pretty quick after using it a bit.

thanks for the help just wasnt sure if i had put them together right so your saying that the truck is always going to be in hi or lo correct?? due to thefirst case. the rear is the same as always.

Yes, the gear reduction box will always be in Hi or Lo. The transfer case (rear) can select between 2 HI, N, 4 HI, and 4 LO.

Did you stay with the stock gears in the rear case?

and don't forget that your front case has a "N" in there, too. The first time I put mine in on an uphill climb, i stuck the front case in neutral instead of Low, and about scared myself to death when I let off the clutch.

yes i did stay with the stock gears for now well see how it goes
