have you done the rear main yet? I am about to do mine and wondered how hard it was.

unfortunately for you worshhim, I have come to the conclusion that it's my oil pan gasket and not the rear main seal. Sooo, after being in your position I must first ask you; have you degreased the area and confirmed that it is the rear main and not other possibilities? If it really is your rear main then you will have to remove your transmission to get to it. There are many threads here that go over it and none of them are 100% IMO. Ask more questions here and everyone will help you continue to diagnose and help you solve your leaks.

I will be buying the factory manual before repair. Please send me to the best links or share your wisdom. I have been searching all of these subjects and I want the best information I can get from the people who know. I will try to do the best writeups I can as well to help out future do it yourselfers.

I prefer hard copies when working on a vehicle. electronic copies are more for perusal and entertainment.
I ordered one today and it was only around $40 with shipping. I asked her if there were many different books and she didn't know anything. So... What manuals do I need and how many are there to complete the set for the whole vehicle?

The pdf mentions that the 3FE should be running on 91 octane. I run my engine on cheap 89 octance. Will this result bacd performance or do all your FJ62's run 87?

I've never had to crack the AT manual.

On your radiator - any chance you could have it repaired? I had mine cleaned when I pulled it to replace the water pump (major PITA). I also had a short brace added from top of core across filler neck. With ARBs, there's a tendency for mechanics to lean over & rest their weight in that area. It has resulted in stress cracks in the neck on my other FJ62.

Those guys have tried & cried over any headers which have ever been available.

I also have the Chilton, Moses Ludel Truck & LC Owners Bible & Gregory's FJ Series Petrol 85-90 3955 cc (3F) = carb version. Seldom have cracked any of them; but the Aussie version is fun to get a downunder perspective. Have to wonder if the oil drains out of the pan in a clockwise or counterclockwise manner in OZ?

I can't recall that I've ever run a tank of 91 Octane, but in 18 years I'm sure I have at least once to no noticeable effect. I do go for the mid-grade in CO, as low there is 85.

Wow, long detailed response.
I have replaced the radiator as mine had already been recored and it was corroding at the inlet / outlet. I also just installed a trany cooler. Thanks for the manual reference numbers. I need to order the other specific ones.
