Hey guys,

I have been trying to hunt down a vibration that is driving me insane (like half of mud it seems), and I came across a post in the 80 series forum that was interesting (listed below).

Drive Shaft PM and Drive Train Troubleshooting- For FAQ

Any who, I am about to do the "drop a shaft and drive around" thing again, but I was wondering what the phasing of the 100 series shafts were suppose to be? As you can see in this image the front drive shaft flanges are suppose to be "out of phase" on the 80..... "--" and "|" ....while the rear is "in phase" ..... "--" and "--".

In the thread it mentions that this could cause problems if it isn't correct, and I just couldn't find how the 100 is suppose to be. I only ask because my front yokes are "in phase," or the same as the rears. Any clarification would be appreciated as I am just trying to prepare for the 100s in the Hills haul without a vibration and all my teeth in tact. ;)

Thanks!

I just crawled under mine to check and the front is also in phase unlike the fsm picture. No vibrations here.

Is this something new after a repair? Or just got worst over time and attempting to repair now?

Ok, good stuff! Thank you! I guess they made a change. I have been hunting this problem and just wanted to make sure this wasn't the issue before chasing other rabbits down the hole.

If you want me to come drive it send me your number. I been outside sweating so I don't mind taking a look now.

I wish I could. I am actually at work now. Thanks though! I will PM ya.

Much better. Thank you!

Whelp, it was one of the rear u-joints. Can barely move it by hand. I have no idea how it got so bad as I am pretty good with greasing them on time, but I guess after 220k what can you expect!?! ;) I am a FWD Cruiser until I can see if I can source some new ones from the local dealer tomorrow and get the shaft balanced. Amazing how quiet the truck is without that bad u-joinmt/shaft on it.

Thread revival, but my question is right along these lines. I am currently swapping in a locked rear from a 98 in my 00LX. The FSM says to make match marks on the yoke flange/companion flange to match them up during reinstall. The axle from the 98 has no marks, so I am wondering if there is a proper way to match up the two and not be out of phase. From looking at the companion flange, it seems like the bolts might not be perfectly square, so can it only bolt up one way? Or do I need to find a way to make sure everything is correct? I will not be messing with the U-Joints, so I am only concerned with correctly matching the yoke flange to the companion flange.
