Driveshaft Length

My 81 FJ40 w/split transfer got a 2.5” Old Man Emu lift and shortly afterwards the drive line vibrations developed.

I swapped that lift over to the BJ42 and having the extra length of the H55F, I can see why the previous owner went with the double Cardin rear drive shaft.

It wasn’t till I saw your post/pictures that I started to question if my rear drive shaft was an oem setup or not.

Strange that Toyota would equip any 40-series with a double Cardin up front. This especially since the ones latest in the production timeline with an H55F would also need a longer front drive shaft. Wonder why it only showed up in the HJ45’s.

I still have the drive shafts from my 4-speed/split case setup. These were original to the truck. I can get measurements if you’d like for comparison.

I would appreciate that. Thanks

Located my 82 FJ40 drivelines today. I compared them to the five speed drivelines. The four speed drivelines need to be modified. Think I have a set of four speed drivelines from 74-80 that I want to compare the ones from the 82. Seen them list as being the same. The 74-80 had the one piece transfer case with a hand brake. The 82 has a split transfer case and no hand brake. Curious if they are the same or close enough they will work on either.

Dug out my 1/74 to 8/80 drivelines. The front drivelines are the same length but the back drivelines are different. The earlier driveline with a hand brake is about 1"/25MM shorter. Need to measure my 79 drivelines but willing to bet it will be shorter as well. SOR's site shows the 1/74-84 rear driveline being the same.:meh:
