I'm with poser, put a single joint driveshaft in there.
When the truck was built, was there a reason why they used a two piece rear driveshaft, maybe to use a commonly-available shaft to go from the carrier bearing to the rear axle?
Either way, I'd pack a few extra u-joints to repair on the road.
